Radio Stations - Music Logs

I am delighted it’s getting a run lately; usually only heard on community stations. I often wonder if somebody at Mix has stumbled upon my show.

Mix 106.3 started playing it sometime late last year as a ‘Feel Good Friday’ tune. I get the impression that the station uses Friday as a day to try out ‘forgotten’ songs and if there’s a good reaction it gets played a little more regularly.

It just so happens that I’m on a Friday afternoon- maybe they will get some ideas from my show

I remember listening to Mix 94.5 from Perth, via internet back in the late twenty noughties, and out of the Australian Commercials, they seemed to have been the best bang for the buck variety wise, quite a welcome break, as back then I didn’t have any of my CDs/records library digitised. :frowning: THey had their Cold 30, as part of the Triple M network, and remember them playing “shoop shoop diddy wop” on their April 1983 countdown, which for a station of that calibar was rather daring back then.

Yes, I remember your posts from the old MS forums back in the day, and do agree that Mix 94.5’s “Cold 30” was much better than the Triple M ones, in that they played a much broader variety of music. Back then, Mix 94.5 was rating well ahead of the other stations in Perth, in which they had an overall share of above 20% in two consecutive surveys back in 2007! :open_mouth:

Their variety was loosely compared to 2Day version 1.0 from the 80s, but remembering Mix 94.5 had another two and a half decades of music to draw from, I wouldn’t say it was any worse then the old 2Day, but was more cliche orientated. You wouldn’t get the more obscure album tracks, but at least Mix would dig up quite a few unflogged top 40 hits from the 80s, where Triple M’s 80s Revival was nothing more then the same 100 songs being played over and over.

I would has it a guess that Mix 94.5 would’ve at least had about 500 tracks in high rotation, with another 2,500 to 3,000 in low to moderate rotation, they were a superior operation when it came to music formats. When Triple M in Sydney done a Cold 30, for example September 1983, it was rather more a mish mash of tracks from about 1981 to 1985, nothing resembling any proper research at all.

Wow I like both playlists. I wish 2UE added some 90s tracks amongst the 60s to 80s track they play today. Then it wouldn’t be easy anymore.

I prefer mixture of easy hits , and upbeat. Basically pop radio.

Thanx; this was from my logs after the show was recorded. As far as Ottowan, 2SM gave it a few spins at the time, but by June 1982 it was gone, never to be heard again, until it was played on Steve Parsons Lunchtime Countdown on Wave FM during 2001.

Can’t do 1982 this year on my show as we air ‘The Timezone Top 40’ which does 1982 every week…

My second last show for starter FM this week, thought I would put on my Rod Muir hair due, his Reebok shoes, and pretend I’m running Triple M in the early 80s, for at least an hour anyway, here is a throw back to how Triple M sounded back in 1982 1983. My friend will be doing my slot from 10am to midday tomorrow, and then my Rock of Ages starts at Midday.

That 2MMM 80s style log is amazing. So they did actually play Journey in the early 80s? Unfortunately I wasn’t around to enjoy it.

The Rock of ages actually started at 11am . Listened to it now. Great stuff.

Thanks for asking, I’ve replied in the Starter Free Media thread mindful of not side railing this thread.

So with my final show recorded, this is the playlist for my program this week, celebrating 30 years in broadcasting, I’ve basically played my favourite song from each year, from 1992 to the present. A surprise given your penchant for dance pop but I am fond of this one too. A forgotten Triple J hit. Might give it a spin on the Conga this week.

Also like the Puff Johnson tune. I associate it with Eagle FM as I recorded them playing it back in 1997 or 1998. Wish I kept the (rare) recordings of my DX from back then.
