Yeah it is a great track. Love the music on that track too, got a great sound like many of the songs on Graceland (Paul Simon recorded that album it in South Africa, it had an African influence in the music). If you never heard that album it is worth a listen.
Though I think the segue from ‘Sally Go Round The Roses’ to ‘Flower’ by Moby was the best of the night. Have a listen to the beginning of ‘Flower’ to see what I mean (and I didn’t realise the Roses>Flower segue until later!)
Let’s have a look at how the two compare. I’m taking an example hour from last week, as Hit were still on a different log to that of the metro stations, unlike this week.

Of course, it’s worth noting that Grant’s Hot AC stations are competing with Hit in several markets around Australia, particularly in QLD, such as the Gold Coast, Cairns, Townsville & Mackay.
Veering into mock thread territory, however: what I’d do if I was in charge of positioning stations for Grants on the east coast.
Cairns: Star 102.7 (CHR), 4CA (Classic Hits)
Townsville: Star 106.3 (CHR), Power 100 (Rock)
Mackay: Star 101.9 (CHR), 4MK (Classic Hits)
In each of these markets, Grants compete against a Hit station and a Triple M station. With the Hit stations skewing older (and noting the ex-Hit breakfast show jumping ship to Star in Mackay), I’d reposition these stations to be younger and hotter. The Townsville market will be interesting to keep an eye on with two rock stations, but I’d leave Power as is for now. The heritage AM stations continue to run their own race.
No format changes to the above markets. Bundaberg is limited to competition from one SCA station (aside from any overspill from the Maryborough duopoly), the Sunshine Coast duopoly reduces overlap with EON’s duopoly, and Hot Tomato remains strong on the Gold Coast.
Ipswich: River 94.9 (Classic Hits)
A huge format hole in Ipswich and the wider region, especially on FM. Would take the same log as Zinc and the Queensland heritage AMs.
Muswellbrook: Power FM (Hot AC), 2NM (Classic Hits)
Wollongong: Wave FM (CHR)
Nowra: Power FM (Hot AC), 2ST (Classic Hits)
Bega: Power FM (Hot AC), 2EC (Classic Hits)
While Power FM in Nowra has typically been more “hot” musically, the comparison between the two markets is stark - Wollongong’s median age is 34 to Nowra’s 43 (as at 2016), and would allow the NSW Power FM stations to be consistent across the board.
Geelong: K rock (Rock), Bay 93.9 (Classic Hits)
What do we do with Geelong? For me, it’s worth going back to whatever heritage is left here. A station with ‘rock’ in the name that plays a godawful Hot AC playlist won’t fly here, and with only overspill from Triple M for competition. Take the same log from Townsville to do it on the cheap. There’s no classic hits competition on the FM band, so let Bay run its own race.
Ballarat: Power FM (CHR), 3BA (AC)
Maryborough/Bendigo: Gold Central Victoria (Classic Hits)
Don’t even need to elaborate on this one. Pretty self explanatory.
Darwin: Hot100 (Hot AC) and Mix 104.9 (Rock)
After living in Darwin for a fear few years I know Darwinian love their rock music.
They could even blow up both stations and relaunch Power100 (Rock) and Star 104.9 (Hot AC)
Rockhampton/Gladstone: 4RO (Classic Hits) and 4CC (Soft AC)
If 4CC was to ever convert to FM, this is what I would do. Star…(CHR). The same as the northern cities.
