Interesting you mention this. Today during a return trip to Sydney on the Hume Hwy I caught bits on 94.1 FM such as: “94…” “This is” “Lives” - dynamic as you say. I thought it was bits of the Wollongong Christian station I was picking up as I was hearing a mix of both stations. Thanks for the news
Gosh I hope so. musicFM did & a big thumbs up to our Media Spy friend from the station who corrected their RDS PS.
Too many characters too. They could always try Todays94
Probably good enough
I note on the SDR that they do have their station name displaying on RDS RT as: Todays Country 94.1 - This is Where Country Lives!
I’m bewildered why the community broadcasters are persisting with Dynamic PS when the ‘majority’ of vehicles on the road these days can now display two lines of RT plus PS…anyway the games are really yet to begin as Todays Country have unfortunately decided to use the exact same PI code (2941) as Pulse 941 in Wollongong - another big oops!
I need a tropo lift here to extract more RDS data, but looks like Todays Country is using a PTY of Pop Music / Country (EU/US).
It was a few months ago now, even though the format is officially “Oldies” now (look up the format definition in Wiki if you don’t understand why), people were commenting negatively about it, & the station manager thought it more appropriate to be Easy Listening.
There’s more RDS changes coming (hopefully before Christmas if I get the time), including now/next song info, I’ve just got to make sure all the track info in Zetta is correct first, when we installed Zetta mid year, we also replaced the entire music library.
@Radiohead Were you able to receive the station previously on your existing car radio?
Just quizzing because I wonder if it’s another of those RDS stations using a leading zero PI code that results in no RDS decode in some radio receivers.
I discovered two Canberra FM RDS stations with leading zero PI codes.
Looking at the RDS list I don’t see any RDS PS or RT info for CHY FM in Coffs.
Anything to report there?
Hope the weather up that way is a little nicer for driving. The Central Coast got a good soaking past days.
I suspect ZZZ Lismore have switched their RDS off again, as in Ballina, both my car radio and Sangean RDS FM/DAB receivers are showing nothing, Only station in the Northern Rivers that seems to be using it is 103,5 at Mullumbimby with Radio 97 station name.
I was also up in Byron Bay this afternoon and the following RDS entries were also noted from the car park at Main Beach.
Hit90.9 92.5 MMM River949 97.3 FM 1029 HOT METRO (4MET 105.7 Gold Coast) Juice FM
I tried very hard to get B105 well enough to see its RDS, but even in elevated parts, still couldn’t get it.
This happened a few weeks ago. I doubt that it would have been switched off because I think it was a built in encoder in the transmitter. The change occurred after a period of time on the backup transmitter, so maybe the main Tx was replaced?
@RFBurns Any idea when 94.5 FBi’s RDS returns? I thought the disappearance of its RDS was due to transmission switched to the standby site/transmitter?
It hasn’t had its RDS for several months now.
Someone posted that 92.9 Tamworth had started using RDS (I cant remember where it was) - took me a week, but I had a look yesterday - its the same station name format that the local community station have used for their Quirindi transmission - 92.9 TMW - which I thought was odd
Also running a tagline “Tamworth’s widest variety of music” (or something along that vein) and a promo for the breakfast show.
If someone is able to point me in the right direction to get my SDR going on a Mac, I may be able to get some more detail
I have no idea, to be honest last time I spoke to their tech, the RDS slipped my mind, he was going on holidays for a few weeks but may be back now, & is working with Koori to rebuild/upgrade their studios, they’ve been let go & need a lot of work.
FBI only have one transmission site (Gore Hill), but yes they recently got a new transmitter, maybe the RDS encoder hasn’t been connected back into it & nobody’s commented to them it’s gone & the tech is too busy to realise?
As I don’t use a Mac or any other Apple software I don’t know how much help I’ll be.
What SDR hardware do you have?
From memory, most of the SDR software out there is designed for Windows or Linux.
What SDR software are you using?
You might care to also ask for assistance on the new SDR forum here on MediaSpy.
Other thoughts are to seek out the forums associated with the manufacturer of your SDR hardware you have & also the forums for the Apple version of SDR software you’re using.
Also seek out Youtube videos.
Basically more details needed to point you in the right direction
