Interestingly, I got a chance to listen to 8TOP FM (as it was ID’d on air back then) in 1987 on a family holiday to Darwin, and the format was like this then as well too.
Probably just the playout system pushing out the name of the file - though it definitely could be on purpose and/or sold as an ‘extra bonus’
RDS PS for 96.1 Cooma is now XLFM96.1, ex 96.1
C91.3 Campbelltown, NSW has restored their song title/artist RT to their RDS.
And there’s changes too:-
[Title] - [Artist] - C91.3
Macarthur Weekend - C91.3
** See Australian RDS List for latest updates.
NEW: @AustralianAerial & all. Please go back 10 message posts for user guide changes to contributions to the Australia RDS List. Newly created formulas now entail almost no manual date changes on the ‘UPDATE History’ worksheet tab.
89.1 Radio Blue Mountains, Katoomba (RBM) has very recently changed their PI code from 0002 to new: 289A
This is a win for those who own vehicles that previously wouldn’t decode RBM’s RDS re known leading zero PI code issue. Feel free to add comments.
Auto update for change date formula/function in ‘Update history’ worksheet working nicely on the Australian RDS List (ref. previous msg).
Even with the changes made to the RDS of RBM I still cannot get it to decode on the Digitech Fm / Dab+ tuner, which is connected to the outdoor Omni fm antenna.
Their RDS must require a very strong clean signal.
I note their 57kHz RDS subcarrier is about 27dB below their 19 stereo pilot carrier, where as many other broadcasters are only -23dB below. Maybe when your’re next up in the mountains or if in future with temp inversion providing a stronger signal you could try again? Try clearing a ‘possible’ memory preset for 89.1 & see if that fixes the issue? @Radiohead is the only other person who I can think of who has a tuner that had that issue with RBM 89.1
One oddity of the RBM RDS transmission is their data transmission of RDS Group 10A, which is for a customized PTYN, that they don’t use.
I can’t think of anything else with their RDS causing it not to display.
It decodes on my car radio now with the PI change:
I’m about 80km straight line distance from Katoomba and it decoded OK with my car radio.
Finally remembered to have a look yesterday - 88.9 Tamworth isnt running RDS
Thanks for checking.
That’s odd… to have RDS on a relay but not the main TX… hopefully it’s coming.
Meanwhile, on a day trip to Gloucester, and Breeze 97.7 has RDS with Song info… it’s been a while since I’ve been up here, so I hadn’t seen it before.
All I could see (and it could be that my VW Tiguan couldnt display anything else) was the station name
91.5 Binjang Radio in Wellington NSW has RDS “Binjang” and I think some generic station messages on their RT.
Meant to post this a couple of months ago when I passed thru.
Last time I passed through here (admittedly back in January this year) the station name would not show on the car radio, making me wonder if it had a PI code issue or similar. But I definitely got a lock on the RDS signal and Radiotext.
It was one of the more interesting stations in the area too - well worth a listen
Poor.
They appear a well organised and experienced exec team.
With Caralis existing TXs not having RDS, this is a missed opportunity of no one claiming first mover advantage.
What’s the edges of the coverage when driving?
Great find @NRN11, were they coronavirus/public health style messages?
It only really becomes clear and stable from Wards River up, very patchy from Stroud to Wards River.
The following Brisbane FM stations have RDS RT+, as used to display song Title & Artist info:
96Five, Triple M & B105.
Also seams to have been a standardization of RDS RT messages across the Triple M & Hit networks across the east coast, on the 100% owned SCA stations. Eg. weather forecast info is displayed on Triple M RDS RT, but not the HIT station RDS RT. Reporting of any exceptions welcome.
Yeah we centralised onto a national AIM Rapid server for RDS so most should be pretty standard other than some local content customisation.
Most peculiar attempt at humour on RDS at 2DAY.
Just saw this scrolling text
2Day FM 104.1 1 1 1 1 1 … soz Keyboard got stuck
There’s quite a few more of them too.
Today’s Country 94.1 Gosford now has RDS.
Unfortunately they have gone the Dynamic text route for station name… Both lines have the same text. So no song info yet.

It was only turned on in the last few days, hopefully they will realise the folly of their ways and revisit.
