Radio Data System (RDS)

Thanks for this piece of info. Good that the annoying scrolling PS turned off. Thank you Highland FM & all.

Incidentally the PS was: HFM_1071 and now HFM1071_ (as above).

The rest of the RDS details appear to be unchanged.

95.7 Golden Days Radio (Melbourne) have changed their PTY from Oldies Music to None (PTY 0)

That must be a new one? Didn’t know they had RDS. Didn’t seem to be there when I was in Melbourne in March.

Meanwhile, 2PSR Port Stephens have changed their PS again.. to PSFM (was previously just a " ). Second time this year they’ve changed it.

Yes, new within the past few weeks.

Thank you. Is that PSFM____ ? Or something different?

Just PSFM____

Likewise didn’t know they had RDS.

That PTY seems really prevalent in Melbourne for some reason, even a lot of the commercial stations have it. Maybe some Tech down there doesn’t like setting genres?

Went for a drive to the Upper Hunter today.

Discovered that two of the “United Collieries East Mine” transmissions have RDS, though I’m guessing unintentionally, must be capturing/re-broadcasting the full signal not just the audio? (if it’s possible to do it like that). And as the injection level is very low and has the same info as the main TXs.

RDS Worksheet now updated with the above.

Yes, FM rebroadcast receivers do this. It’s pretty common. Tunnel repeater systems do it, for example.

Radio Skid Row now using Dynamic PS:

100.9 Connect FM have added Program Name Information to their RDS RT.

Eg. “Wednesday Night Zombie Fever with Steph, Kat and Rachel”

They should be taken off air due to that party foul.

(I am waiting for a transmitter failure on Skid Row…)

The PI has changed on FBi. Though now it clashes with 2EC Bega:

FBis PI was 2945 in the past as well.

I’d notice it around Mt Pleasant (Billy’s Lookout), south of Kiama where the car radio will initially display either 2EC or FBI 94.5 before updating to the correct PS, also with 105.9. But the signal of both stations isn’t strong enough anywhere to cause any unintentional switching.

Except in tropo…I can get both 2EC and fBi with RDS around Bungendore even with a bit of enhancement.

FBi have changed their RDS PI to a unique code that now resolves any present PI code conflicts. :slightly_smiling_face: :+1:

Bout Time that issue with Star was really annoying

Not sure when it was added, but CW Slopes also seems to have the 23F5 regional PI. Nothing on Illawarra though.

Sorry I’m confused by the post. The image shows PI of 22F5 for 106.3MHz.

And capturing 106.3 RDS moments ago I can see PI of 22F5.

Does the PI of 22F5 sometimes change to 23F5?

Looking now; 90.9 Illawarra still has PI of 22F5.

It’s the regional PI (I’m not sure if that’s the right term) - the small number above the 22F5.

Got it. Thanks, sorry I missed noticing the small PI number above the main number. It’s the first time I have noticed this & first ever time I have seen this ever implemented (I presume) in Australia.

Second (PI Code) Character Coverage Codes
0 - Local (Local program transmitted via a single transmitter only during the whole transmitting time.)
1 - International (The same program is also transmitted in other countries.)
2 - National (The same program is transmitted throughout the country.)
3 - Supra-regional (The same program is transmitted throughout a large part of the country.)
4 to F - Regional (The program is available only in one location or region over one or more frequencies, and there exists no definition of its frontiers.)

I wonder if the PI switches to 23F5 during news or some news broadcasts? Something to watchout for.
