Radio Data System (RDS)

I just made the smallest update to the RDS worksheet… 2WKT have now added a space to their PS… so now HFM 1071 (see below)

And thanks @ozbark for updating 2HD 97.5 Port Stephens!

Noice!

Let’s hope this is the start of a new wave of ABC RDS rollouts!

This morning’s tropo opening bought up the MAGIC relay at Golden Heights with a strong enough signal to get its RDS info picked up by the autologger. This confirms that the PI of 11DD is correct, as is the PS.

97.100 11DD Magicfm_

I’m going to try and leave my second web server locked to 97.1 to decipher full RDS info overnight as this seems to be the best times to try and receive it.

A contender for weirdest RDS of the year has emerged.

Port Stephens FM have put inverted commas / double apostrophe in their PS (previously blank). This appeared on my car radio this afternoon too so I know it’s not an erroneous decode.

Overnight bought some luck. Seems as though this is all that’s being shown. No RT aside from ‘test’, no PTY and more disappointingly, no AF frequencies.

Making it into Sydney too:

Good catch! Why 97.48? Is that because of SBS 97.7 or another reason?

Yep, the BER is better by offseting it a bit from the local station +200 kHz. Same for 2BS on 95.1/95.08.

Here’s a short video showing how the decoding improves offsetting by -20 kHz:

ABC Upper Hunter’s 105.7 freq has RDS. Just has weather, call and text lines. IDs as ABCHuntr - could’ve used ABC UH.

Don’t know about the Murrurundi or Merriwa frequencies for 2HVR or RN, and I know 104.9 hasn’t got RDS IIRC.

That’s one decode error away from having a very different meaning.

Oh I’m waiting for the first FB post from back home with someone taking a photo of that happening.

I did post about ABC Upper Hunter’s RDS a couple of months ago.

Thought it was odd that 104.9 News didn’t have it as it presumably has a newer transmitter since it went to air around 2009, 16 years after 105.7 did.

Well I did miss that. My apologies.

Stopped by in Waikerie this morning and did a bit of DXing. Noted the new details for the 5RM relay on 89.9 and updated the spreadsheet.

While it gets out well to the east, there appears to be a sharp null towards the west. It barely makes it to Blanchetown, which I’m fairly sure is still in the Riverland RA1 area.

In Kalgoorlie WA tonight.

Sadly ABCs here don’t have RDS. But have updated RDS with worksheet with 6KAR (Hit) changes including new entry for 94.7 relay at Kambalda, as per screenshot below.

And the main Hit 97.9 TX looks to be the only one here with RDS. Super Pit relays including Hit on 91.9 don’t appear to have it either, but will update tomorrow if I find otherwise when I go up for a look!
