Tried yesterday from Picnic Point here in Toowoomba but it seems my 2021 work car doesn’t even do RT+ let alone RDS2
I’m reading AF on 92.1 Breeze as 103.3 and on Rebel 90.5 as 102.5 .
BTW these are the AF’s for ABC Gold Coast stations:
88.5 Classic 106.5
90.1 RN -
91.7 Local 97.7
95.7 News 90.9, 98.5
97.7 JJJ 107.7
Interesting. Do you know which encoder is being used?
Thimeo announced RDS2 is coming to StereoTool.
I’ll be keen to hear if any receivers support it. I was chatting to the RDS Forum last year and they didn’t think one existed.
I thought they all got turned off?
Mt Nardi did. Gold Coast is still online for now.
Gold Coast will be staying on as it has been approved and allowed to be on, sadly out of my hands with the way it is setup
Their respective Kooralbyn repeaters.
Feels a bit like AM Stereo, where you can buy new Nautel and SRK AM transmitters with C-QUAM encoders, but new hardware receivers can’t be found.
RDS2 encoders are available from at least Audemat, Thimeo & Pira, implemented to various degrees. Receiver availability is the core issue, and I’m also keen to hear what receivers support it. Promising surprise to hear from Parex11 his Sangean radio was displaying our logos, apparently from the RDS2 broadcast (as some receivers pull them from the internet). Perhaps some receivers have it implemented as an undocumented feature.
RDS2 offers some interesting potential advantages, including;
- More robust fringe reception of RT, with a longer field.
- Graphics: station logos, album artwork etc
- URL’s for streaming fail-over when moving out of FM range.
- Long PS
It may sink or swim, but broadcasters supporting it can only help.
Parex11 reported two of his (many) portable radio’s are now displaying the logo, and he’s found four cars that display it. Only 2 FM stations that do. Nice.
Today added RDS2 with station logo broadcast to Breeze 102.5 & Rebel 106.7 Wide Bay.
Do we know what cars, popular models?
I might put using RDS2 to management at Coast FM Gosford & implement it there as well?
Have another one to add to the list now Car wise too.
EDIT: 2024 Dodge Ram 1500, Alpine Unit from the brand on the speakers. Even puts the logos in the station list. And everyone else just has a broadcast tower image
Cars he mentioned;
- Subaru WRX 2019 - Aftermarket Pioneer DAB Headunit
- 2023 Mini John Cooper Works with Harmon Kardon Upgraded Audio System
- JVC/Kenwood aftermarket headunit (non DAB)
- Jaguar XE 2021 - Meridan System
I might stop now cause asking friends can I play with your radio is a bit presumptious. Lol.
Goes with the territory for those in this & the dx thread doesn’t it?
Last one i swear… 2023 Kia Cerato GT Line with Tech Pack. (Bunch of infotainment upgrades like JBL speakers and DAB radio in the tech pack). My neighbours car. Slowest of the lot though took 3 mins to bring it in.
Even got the TEF to do it as an SDR to the PC last night @AJ1… well you did want me to test.
Now Im not asking anyone else… hahaha.
Obviously being a turbo didn’t help in the DAB department
That was the rds 2 department
Oh sorry, yes, i had DAB on my mind for some reason
