That’s the same PI code they use here in Newcastle too.
Probably a bit like SKY Racing/4TAB, who both use 4897 everywhere I’ve seen it.

Not sure if has been posted before but 4ZZZ seems to have Dynamic PTY on their RDS
Not sure if this is listed on the RDS list?
What other PS does it display other than 4ZZZ as shown above?
Always says 4ZZZ but it seems the PTY type changes for any programs that fit within a relevant PTY group
Ah right!
I don’t think I’ve seen that before?
Though I’ve never paid that much attention to the PTY data.
Yeah it varies a bit depending on the show - I’ve seen ‘Varied’, ‘Other Music’, ‘Nation Music’, ‘Jazz’ (as per above), ‘Information’, ‘Affairs’ and probably others too.
101FM Logan does a similar thing with their shows. It’s very clever when you’re channel surfing and land on it, you know what kind of program you might expect to hear.
That’s pretty cool, I never knew/realised it was easily changeable like that, thought it would need a techie to make that change, even though on face value, it seems pretty simple to do.
Hopefully it’s accurate.
Just got back from an extended long weekend holiday up on the North Coast.
Interesting observation up there is that the BOG stations implementation of RDS in Grafton and Lismore is far more advanced than New FM.
I’ve seen song data (still only on local shows), local weather, suburb mentions and more on the Lismore and Grafton stations.
New FM only have song information and a basic message when a song isn’t playing. They even insist on yelling everything at me in ALL CAPS which looks horrible on most RDS displays.
Agree, possibly a product of a more recent RDS implementation too, whereas NEW has had it for a few years now, as I think they were the first BOG FM station to have RDS and song info.
Anyone have a rough idea of Nova 106.9 PI code history, and when it became 4106?
PI Code on Nova Melbourne has now been changed to 3003 to stop the switching issue @M81 brought to our attention.
Thanks for the info and heads up everyone
Hi @AJ1
I think it would have been some 5 to 10 months ago.
Apparently after the NOVA Entertainment tech/s discovered our RDS List they, in their ‘infinite wisdom’ decided to change their PI codes to more frequency associated (and non hex character) (i.e. A - F) numbers. They did this in Melbourne, Sydney & Brisbane (odds are in Adelaide too, but we don’t have RDS insights into Adelaide). And subsequent to the changes they created havoc, eg to one of your stations, to ABC’s ‘ABC Sport’ (Melb) on DAB+ & also potentially to New FM Newcastle. They completely ignored our Table 2 on Worksheet 14 & the significance of the 2nd digit of the PI code & AF/REG settings on tuners.
If you give me a bit of time I can probably narrow that window of PI code change by them considerably, perhaps down to the month. I archive copies of the RDS List regularly & should be able to determine roughly or specifically in the the case of Sydney. Depends on if they changed the codes within the same day week or month for all their desired stations nationwide.
Update 2: The Nova Entertainment PI code changes occurred just prior to or between October 9th & 11th, 2023 (ref both Nova 106.9 & Smooth FM Sydney).
The Nova 106.9 PI Code data changes to our AUS RDS List worksheets were made after the Oct 9th, 2023 data save & prior to October 11th, 2023. Hope this helps.
Thanks for that. What did it change from?
Nova Engineering advised their PI code has been 4106 in Brisbane since station launch. But I don’t recall the last two digit Nova<>Breeze retune issue being long term, and 100.6 has always had a 4006 PI. Complaints received are mainly 2023/24 - I had another one today.
I’m in favor of self regulation where it works, but I’ve seen enough questionable choices to think it may be best if ACMA allocated PI codes.
Welcome. Nova’s 106.9 PI code was consistently F106 up until the indicated date above.
That absolute Bulls__t!
Happy to provide you with a Excel copy that proves otherwise if needed.
I have records that go back to year 2018. Nova’s 106.9 PI code was F106 back then.
I try to record such details on Worksheet 11 (PI codes) if possible.
Feel free to check out our RDS List anytime. A wealth of info there these days.
Agreed.
I think there’s a case in point above.
Happy to help you out.
Also for the record Melbourne’s Nova PI code was F100.
Also I have a record of Nova Adelaide’s PI as being F919, I wouldn’t
be surprised if this has changed too given the PI pattern.
Is there anyone from ADELAIDE reading this forum who can check PI codes in Adelaide for us?
RDS finally fixed
Yes I Spoke to someone there who was trying to chew me out for my mediaspy comments but I think maybe we found common ground in the end. I say maybe…
That would be me from earlier haha
It just did it again on my JBL tuner 2 moved to my living room(opposite part of the house to tamborine tower) and it switched to Nova after a smidge of static… sheryl crow featuring jack harlow lol. Just switched to streaming… dont know why i should have to. I believe it was the new mashup Strong Enough Lovin on Me.
Questionable choices… YES!
Like using HEX to represent decimal numbers ?
The system devised by CRA is stupid… ACMA is that under resourced I doubt they would want to know about RDS PI codes
In the Gold Coast & Logan regions, 100.6, 99.4 & 92.1 (not 90.5) are trialing RDS2. Only the stations logo is being transmitted (no other fields), with a lower injection level than the RDS1 sub-carrier.
SDR + current RDS SPY + RDS SPY RDS2 plugin will decode it in 70 seconds.
We are interested to hear of any impact to normal reception (especially in multipath prone areas) and to start identifying the hardware radios that can decode RDS2.
Parex11 advised the logos are displaying on a Sangean portable DPR 76-GBEUR
