Iād be interested to hear from the ABC as to why the Nambour 89.5 RDS is like this, and has been for so long.
It seems pointless that only maybe three people can actually see it.
I wonder if itās even meant to be there at all?
I finally got caught up in the āsame last two digit PI code swappingā issue that some here have been dealing with today.
The Pioneer radio in the old car kept switching from Breeze Gold Coast (PI code 4006) to Nova 106.9 (PI code 4106) as I drove toward Brisbane. It even reprogrammed the Breeze preset on the radio to 106.9 - not cool.
I need to check if the issue will occur the other way too - I presume it will? If so, maybe I should complain to Nova and tell them that they will be losing listeners on the Gold Coast to an easy listening station
99.7 Bridge FM have stated on their FB page that RDS is coming.
Would be a fantastic addition if anyone could pick up their signal any moreā¦
Yes I think you should mention it to Nova.
@AJ1 I believe is aware of the problem but Nova defiantly refused to change their PI code. Perhaps the more people complain to Nova about this issue the more likely
theyād be to change their PI code. Thereās far more work involved for The Breeze changing all their 4006 PI codes than for Nova with their solitary 4106 code & it was Nova that recently changed their PI code from F106 to 4106, so whatās the problem in changing again? Itās behaviour like that, that could force ACMA into action. I suspect both parties would prefer ACMA not get involved.
Re the 89.5 Triple J Sunshine Coast RDS problem. I thank everyone for their input & work on this.
Iāve had a further think about this & I strongly suspect that the 89.9 Triple J Nambour/SC service must be an off-air feed from 107.7 Triple J Brisbane with likely insufficient attenuation (filtering) of the audio above 20kHz. On the MPX spectrum the peak at 57kHz is likely just one of the original RDS sidebands.
Spent 3 weeks up there over Christmas and New Years, and can confirm it is still occurring. Interestingly enough, my receiver decoded it a few times in the Maroochydore area, which isnāt what Iād call a prime spot to receive the Dulong Tx, with Buderim affecting the line of sight in some areas. Spent some time at the lookout about 400 metres away from the Tx and it decoded reliably in that location, which I suppose isnāt a surprise.
At Alexandra Headland it seems to be strong enough from both 107.7 and 89.5 and my receivers AF function kicks in and flicks between the two as needed, only in that general area though.
I saw someone mention RDS isnāt technically switched on and thereās no appliance adding it, something Iāve wondered for a long time, is if it could somehow be via the off-air feed? The site uses a tuner set to 107.7, perhaps it re-broadcasts that part of the frequency range? Sounds ridiculous, butā¦
Oh, didnāt see this before my above reply. There you go.
Sure does remain a mystery, the posts make for great reading, excellent observations.
Will try calling the ABC reception number on Monday, usually quite helpful with either a call back or put through to their operations team overseeing program switching. Either way, always knowledgeable and happy to discuss.
Iāve just noticed that ABC Classic in Sydney is not running RDS at present (as of around 4:40pm AEDT, 26/1/24). JJJās RDS is still running.
ABC Classicās Illawarra service is unaffected.
Only just clicked that VAR should change this PI code, which is already in use for 3BBO/Triple M Bendigo.
From my experience, there is very little overlap in signal coverage, which should make this one a lot less problematic than others.
Some RDS List housekeeping notes.
Noted today that someone on 21st of January, 2024 @ ~ 12.07pm deleted the PI code of CDCD from the PI Code Worksheet #11. This belongs/ed to 88.3 3SCB. I note this code is still present in the Vic Melb market list of Worksheet #3.
Can someone from the Melbourne area please confirm if 88.3 3SCB is still using RDS with PI code of CDCD or if changed?
If anyone accidentally makes an error or deletion from the list, please note that you can easily undo the error with the UNDO arrow button on the Google Sheets menu.
Whilst most people are doing the right thing a reminder for others; if making any changes, additions etc to the PI code worksheet or the state based worksheets #3-10 PLEASE update the date in that MARKET area on the far right column or for PI code changes or confirmation on worksheet #11, please update the date in āColumn Lā for that row entry. This helps users determine new changes. Also one can also enter an overview of your main changes on Worksheet #17.
Additionally if anyone makes an error and has logged off the page & canāt recall the error please let us know on this forum & weāll review & reinstate the entry data.
BTW I noticed someone (may not even be a MediaSpy member?) over the past two weeks spends a huge amount of time accessing the RDS List multiple times a day just parked on the top of Worksheet #2 (NSW/ACT) not looking or not editing.
Can I kindly suggest if someone is not using/editing the list that they close their RDS List tab on their browser as if you are on the same worksheet that someone wants to look at or edit they might be dissuaded from using or editing that page. Thank you.
Still no RDS on Classic 92.9 Sydney. Unusual for it to be missing this long?
But it seems like 105.7 Triple J has RDS that is loading a bit quicker now too, and song info is back too which was missing during the Hottest 100.
I wish the ABC would get it $hit together and implement RDS properly. In the battle for the RDS Ashes, the BBC has inflicted innings defeat after innings defeat.
Just had a quite look and it is on the backup audio path which is AES3 L+R, this would not have any RDS on it hence no RDS
I find it rather odd that the smaller regional areas that are close to a capital are getting RDS (eg Goulburn, Warwick and Lismore) but not the larger ones like Newcastle and the Gold Coast.
Hopefully a sign of things to come, driving from Sydney to Brisbane and not having to retune triple j would be cool!
oh I couldnāt listen to Triple J for 10 hours straight!
