I’ll find out tomorrow as I should be going to Harrietville, unless the Mount Beauty Rd land slip is triggered by today’s rain. I assume you meant to say Harrietville, not Shepparton! Shep 94.5 can be heard for miles around, even well into NSW.
Alpine Radio don’t advertise 94.5 on their website, only 92.9 and 96.5.
Answered my own question today out in the Forester. Tuned to 103.3 in Brisbane and it switched me to 107.7 almost instantly, with no noticeable interruption to continuity of music.
Not sure if it would work the other way sending me to 103.3 from 107.7, but nice to know AF is present and working one way at least. It really should be the minimum the ABC is doing with its FM networks in my opinion.
Absolutely it would. The moment you clear the scrub heading east and get the view out towards Brisbane, it should absolutely switch over (it’s also where 103.3 is overtaken by the Rebel service from Kooralbyn).
It’s also a case where it would be great if 104.1 Mt Mowbullan had RDS as well. There are many parts between Warwick and the Gap where 103.3 suffers from a lot of multipath interference and 104.1 comes in clearer if you manually tune to it. RDS AF between the two would allow the receiver to choose the stronger signal and give a much better listening experience all the way from south of Stanthorpe to Brisbane.
I’m enjoying the simple yet useful radio text of ‘Triple J Southern Downs’. Great for travellers to know where, locals too.
This, station name and Trad Folk as format all were displayed without many metres of good signal along the ridge of Annerley/Moorooka on Ipswich Road.
Yes @tamago_otoko, each time I tuned to 103.3, I had to turn off AF find RDS for 103.3.
Agree @TV.Cynic, if only 89.5 Dulong Lookout operated correctly, refuses to resolve RDS in its backyard/front yard of Mapleton/Nambour. The RDS listing should be removed @ozbark since it’s so widely unavailable.
Great suggestion @NRN11 and once you’ve tested through Cunninghams’ Gap, try the loop either way via Head Road/Spring Creek Road. On the coastal side (Head Rd), aptly on a few blind corners, Mt Coot-tha FM is unavailable and conversely, Spring Ck Rd has a few blind corners for signals from Passchendaele Ridge.
For added challenge, try Head Gate Rd for added exploration.
Is it not configured? Whenever I am down in Kozi, the tuner in the Jeep continuously swaps between all of their Tx’s, which seem to be audio syncd. It’s the best implementation I’ve ever seen and means I rarely hear static even up and down the mountains.
With lots of reports regarding RDS on LPON operator “Faith FM”, after recent discussions with one of their techs, they are rolling out RDS on all new installations, with existing services slowly being upgraded. They are hoping to have all their network with RDS by the end of the year. Also, seeing modern radio’s automatically switch between Stereo and Mono, the old need to run mono is no longer needed as receivers switch to Mono when the signal gets below a certain point. Stereo will also be rolled out on all new installations.
I basically agree @crankymedia & apparently RDS isn’t officially on from the transmitter either according to sources. But if I removed it someone might get cranky about it (not you obviously).
Not exactly my say either re removing it, as it has been a curiosity to some folk. Though to seek some kind of middle ground I decided to slightly grey the noted Sunshine Coast entry text in the RDS list & add more notes about the entry in the NOTES field. Hope that is a fair compromise.
BTW can anyone from SE Qld please tell me if Bribie’s 88FM is still on with RDS & if anyone has any further RDS details of this station, eg PI code, PTY etc?
Further to the previously reported (like when last reported here) Triple j RDS decode on 89.5 seemingly from the vicinity of 89.5MHz triple J Sunshine Coast transmission site, can anyone determine if this RDS decode is still occurring?
Some tropo still in play I guess.
Can I ask what model of SDR this is?
PI codes & PTY are always easiest & quickest to decode,
I know I previously requested this & the result was we couldn’t see the usual 57kHz double peak RDS subcarrier, but during a quiet audio period (rare on JJJ I know) is it possible to capture a MPX screenshot where a 57kHz subcarrier is viewable?
Lots of vertical (amplitude) scale in the MPX spectrum window preferred.
I have some info saying RDS is not activated from this TX.
It’s a mystery… & still a curiosity.
I’ve done it in the car radio on more than one occasion but it’s very tough. Even literally parked at the Dulong Lookout it didn’t decode straight away.
Last I checked was in November at the top of the hill behind Alexandra Headland, just as you approach the Sunshine Motorway interchange. It’s a good hill there with views to the west, so just enough signal to get the minuscule RDS signal to decode.
It’s a minor miracle that @TV.Cynic can get it to decode in Brisbane, he must have excellent LOS to the north. I’ve only ever got it where I can literally see the TX tower
