Radio Data System (RDS)

Still at Armidale Tourist Park as confirmed in the Master Antenna TV Systems (Hospitals, Hotels, etc) thread, I can confirm that FM 100.3 does not have RDS yet. When will 2AD and FM 100.3 move to the new site?

Not sure when the move will happen.

Does 104.3 have SkyRacn RDS text there?

Interestingly, Sydney is still smoothfm

Now at my uncle Rod’s house, I can check that 104.3 FM does indeed have the SkyRacn RDS text with a PTY of Sport.

Off-topic: The hand in the photo attached is my mum’s.

ABC Classic FM trying a new music format?

(The box BAI use to convert DAB DLS to FM RDS for transmission in Hobart on ABC FM services has obviously failed again… In this case it’s relaying 7HOFM’s now playing)

4GG-87.8 with no RT but TP appeared on my car RDS list at Mermaid Beach/Nobby/Mermaid Waters/Robina near Bond Uni.

Seems to be connected to Vintage FM and My88 in Sydney among others - https://4gg.com.au/

What…a PS of “TP” ???

Interesting. I guess the owners of Vintage FM moved up to Qld.

That FM LOPN licence was sold or leased to ‘Faith FM’ in Penrith at least.

Now looking at the website:

I thought River 87.6 was owned by Nathan Rose?
Now I am confused

Re 4GG 87.8MHz. The following was posted on their FB page 11 hours ago:-
Our FM Transmitter is having a drama - you can listen thru iHeart Radio https://www.iheart.com/live/4gg-10019/ - Not sure when our 87.8 FM will be back on.

Traffic Program (TP) was lit up when on this station. Most stations don’t run it. There was no TP and never seems to be in Australia, only the data.

Interesting. Thanks for that. :slightly_smiling_face: Perhaps unfinished RDS programming? We need RDS Spy or a TEF to syphon off some more details including a PI code. PI code probably something like 0000 or FFFF, but who knows? Yeah TA/TP are just RDS flags. I’m yet to experience a Traffic Program RDS switch.

It is, I would say though he is buddies with Wayne so he gets some cross promotion.

@crankymedia It’s probably from this site at Mermaid Beach:
https://web.acma.gov.au/rrl/site_search.site_lookup?pSITE_ID=10033694
Unfortunately Google Streetview dates back to Aug 2020 for imagery of the above location.

Interestingly this is the only LPON licence under the client name for this licence.
Must be other Client names associated with Wilmo.

Love the nostalgic (slightly cringey) 4GG station slogan/promos. :slightly_smiling_face:

Further RDS details like a PI code would be good for the RDS list/dxers…

Able to pick up Northside radio today:

The Media Realm website recently added a webpage dated Nov 6th 2023 devoted to RDS. It provides a very good description of RDS on the following webpage & even our community based Media Spy RDS List gets a mention & a clickable link.

https://www.mediarealm.com.au/articles/fm-rds-radio-data-system-guide/

What has also impressed me is that it is apparent that the author does or has read our Media Spy RDS forum posts as some of the PI code selection problems have been highlighted in the article.

Hi all,

Long term follower, first time poster.

I have notice my Ĺ KODA is picking up PAL DOGA on 100.9 which I believe is ABC News Radio in Albury/Wodonga. None of the local ABC stations have RDS features so it surprised me to see this.

Bizarrely my partners Ford Focus doesn’t see the same text.

Welcome.

Yes. First I’ve heard of any ABC Newsradio outlets having partial RDS.
Here’s a theory on what’s happening/ed.
The 100.9 transmitter (maybe new?) is outputing a RDS subcarrier with at least partial RDS, like a PI code.

Your vehicle is a European Car. ‘Pal Doga’ is a Turkish station. Perhaps in the vehicle’s very early life whilst still in Europe, it received this radio station, which had the same RDS PI code as what ABC Newsradio is presumably now/was using on 100.9 in the Albury area.

Many vehicles, based purely on past received PI codes & PS, via the tuners memory first populate a PS (station Name) based on received PI code.
A PI code is usually one the first pieces of info to be decoded from a RDS signal.
Tuners often match a past & current PI code to a past received PS prior to updating to current PS if it’s being received.
Now if 100.9 is not currently transmitting a PS (station name), this might well explain why your friend’s Ford Focus is not displaying a PS & yours is showing the last received PS based on that PI code.

Is the appearance of ‘Pal Doga’ on your tuner very recent? How long have you owned the car?

More could be revealed if you have a SDR with RDS Spy or a TEF6686 radio that shows more RDS data like a PI code & PS etc.

Hope this explanation helps? Sure would be interesting to discover more to this mystery. Perhaps others in the group can reveal more of the 100.9 transmission?

From FMLIST.ORG, Pal Doga 100.9FM, Ankara Turkey PI code is 3A43. Someone with local knowledge may be able to identify a similar xx43 PI code in the Albury area. Or maybe just a false PI decode in the Skoda.

Or one almighty e-skip! As unlikely as that may be!
