Or even the Mid 2000s Mix 106.5.
Seems as if WSFM have taken a leaf out of the Gold 104.3 copybook and gone “Totally 80s” on Friday nights … I suspect this is a fairly recent change… ?
Looking at Lava, it started last Friday, airing from 7pm to 1am.
I’m actually fairly surprised it’s taken this long for WSFM to have a block of their regular schedule dedicated to 1980s music, given that any specially themed countdowns over public holidays are usually 80s countdowns!
I agree, it’s taken a while!
Though the playlist seems fairly unadventurous so far, not as varied as what I’ve heard on Gold 104.3
Mike Byrne was on air at WSFM this arvo at around 4pm today.
And another thing Mike Hammond will be back at his 9am start from tomorrow.
What’ll the new weekday schedule be like? Mike Hammond 9-2? Anymore Totally 80’s?
Website has Mike 9-1, Totally 80s 1-2 and Steve Fitton 2-6
Jason Staveley will cover the Totally 80’s starting today.
Didn’t he just leave WSFM?
He’s now music director for Gold in Melbourne, so a quick VT session each weekday and he’s set
I prefer the 80’s music at midday before at WS not at 1 to 2pm timeslot. Not getting used to it.
Correct! That site is humourous for the many errors it makes yet supposedly is an industry site.
Exactly, as they always should have done. However, the polar nature of sales and beancounting limit to only two choices. Unsurprising when you get to know some within those sectors, some of those buying airtime are lucky to count to two.
So is this still happening?
Your guess is as good as mine
Next month according to Christian
Personally I think they should roll out the Pure Gold brand to 97.3, Mix and 96fm at the same time.
The show won’t be going to KQ or Cruise I assume. Those stations are so far removed from WS and Gold the network no longer makes sense. 97.3, Mix and 96 are closer.
From Radioinfo:
4KQ’s Laurel, Gary & Mark Breakfast Show have brought back the hugely popular ‘4KQ Is My Station!’ competition for a whole new generation of listeners.

Just don’t say, “4BC for me!”
Answering the phone and letting the caller know you listen to 4KQ is a great way to connect with a city. It’s like bumper stickers. More than an ad - it’s a personal recommendation.
You can sort of cheat with a mobile phone though - if it’s your friend calling you can see their phone number and thus no need to say “4KQ is my station”.
