Pure Gold Network

This morning on Gold 104.3 Christian O’Connell had the job of calling the winner of the Royal Melbourne Hospital Home Lottery to inform them of their win.

Multiple calls to the winner’s mobile went unanswered, then they tried his work. After a very patient office worker (Lisa) made multiple calls and texts to her boss, telling him to answer his phone, she was finally able to reach him. Turns out he and his wife were at a pilates class with his phone on silent. So after about 30 minutes of padding out the show, Christian was finally able to tell him he’d won a $4.2m house and gold package in the lottery. Mind you, the winner initially thought he must’ve won a car!

What could’ve been disastrous radio actually worked out well, with full credit to Christian and Jack and their producer.

4KQ are doing a “Grand Vinyl Weekend” this Queen’s Birthday Long Weekend (in QLD).

These weekends can be a bit of fun. The morning crew picks an album from the K-tel Record Selector and reminisce over and play some of the tracks, some of which are so obscure, this is their only chance of being heard again.

The album art that accompanies the track, however, doesn’t match. For some tracks there is none available and for others there are some really strange ones e.g. Shyhook’s Ego (It’s not a dirty word) came up with album art for the soundtrack for “Molly: Do Your Self A Favour”.

6am news didn’t go to air properly this morning on WSFM.

There was 30 seconds of silence, then 1 minute of the Talking Heads’ “Road To Nowhere” then more silence, an ad, then the “Weather” stinger, followed by more silence and then back to normal programming.

I though they’d have someone in the studio at this time of day to override such issues since its the breakfast shift - even though it’s a public holiday.

Dancing with the Stars’ return to Melbourne in 2020 could prove a problem for co-host Amanda Keller. Is there a spare studio at Gold 104.3 for her to present WSFM breakfast while Jonesy is in Sydney? Or will Amanda have to do it from her hotel room?

Hotel room? As if. They usually have studios available in other cities they can use.

There’s more than one on air studio for both Gold and KIIS, so I’d say yes

ARN have re-signed Amanda Keller and Brendan Jones to WSFM 101.7 breakfast and Christian O’Connell to Gold 104.3 breakfast for at least another three years.

I wish a Sydney station would bring it back… like WSFM or 2CH.

Robbie Klitzing, former Red FM WA breakfast host and now Gold 104.3 Content Assistant presented drive today.

Craig Huggins did 6-10 in lieu of Christian O’Connell, with Toni Tenaglia sliding up into mornings.

Hang on, you go from remote WA bfast and end up Content Assistant in Melb in your next gig?

Remote WA via Perth, of course.

From memory that role used to be held by Chris Holland, who came via Sea FM Cairns (known on air as Dutchy). Not as big a jump as it sounds I’d say, especially in a support role
