Paramount Australia & New Zealand

Expect More Cost Cuttings, even Fan Favourites like The Project and Masterchef.

I think they report on delay as per calendar years as they don’t have the usual ASX reporting obligations. So I’m guessing this is calendar year 2023. They only report to ASIC as per foreign ownership regulations. Not exactly 100% on the details here but something like that.

Quite possibly, the article is a bit of a mess

A bit like Ten and Paramount at the moment. :joy:

I cant see Skydance holding onto Ten when they takeover.

I agree. Which is why I find people calling for Beverly’s head odd.

10s programming is better quality, bolder, more contemporary.

10s issue is no news brand and no big sports.

With a strong news at 6 and breakfast and sports, they could be #1 or a strong #2

But that takes deep pockets and decades of patience

They just need investment and someone who is willing to do that.
Unfortunately not many (if any) billionaires or media players are interested.

If only us MediaSpy folk were rich…

Ha! Good way to frame it!
Yea - with legacy media on the decline - who would want to throw money into free to air broadcast TV news in 2024

I mean, if they value the stations at $0.00, surely we could chip up a few dollars between us

Now that’s a Christmas gift for media enthusiasts :stuck_out_tongue:

The problem, however, is that even if Ten were to re-enter those areas, the same factors that ‘killed off’ programs like Breakfast, The Circle, Ten Morning News, 6pm, 6:30, Ten Evening News, Wake Up, and Studio 10 would likely still persist.

I believe the network should have wound up and paved the way for a fresh approach with a new third network—whether it be CBS, WIN, or another entity.

The thing is, their 2018 rebrand looked promising, but CBS - now Paramount - just didn’t give a rat’s behind about them and it shows.

If they somehow secure a sport in upcoming rights, it’ll be a step towards something good.

CBS did give a rat’s about 10 - it’s just after the merger with Viacom they ended up being run by the same people in charge of Channel 5.

There’s a super simple fix here, but noOOOooo, American overlords don’t care/can’t be bothered to fix it.
Get new admin people for either both networks or lump 10 out of it.
As Seregei the meerkat says, “Simples!”

Admin people?
I think you mean executive leadership

Who in Australia would you nominate to lead 10?

I think 10 is not good at marketing. They need someone new there. But the programming is good.

They just don’t have the money for news and sports

They need their old marketing circa 2018 rebrand.

And better news executives

10 have tried news at 6, twice. The second time they gave a better crack at it but it still didn’t work.

It’s more than news at 6.

It’s news at 6. A breakfast show. Marketing and promotion. And then patience and deep pockets.

They also need a strategy about why to watch them over the big guys at 6

They’ve never had one.

Which Ten do not have.

They need points of difference, not a breakfast show it’s such a crowded market already. They need local news at 7 and 9:30 every single weeknight and even Sundays. Dramas can play at 10:30.

They need a game show hour at 6pm to lure over a wider age demographic. They need to go all in on comedy and entertainment. Be a fun channel.

Local news in primetime and comedy and entertainment. Don’t worry about daytime.

I’m a little bit surprised they never tried a breakfast version of The Project. Its format isn’t that far off a breakfast show anyway. But it’s a moot point because as you pointed out, the market is crowded enough.
