She’s clearly widely respected in 10/Paramount. Presumably the powerbrokers above her at 10 aren’t big browsers of the ratings threads here and instead more focus on the actual performance of the company.
Could be that the overseas heads don’t know anyone in the local market to take over so they keep promoting and changing her title?
If they really wanted to oust her, they could easily commence a formal search.
I hear a certain Channel 7 exec has some upcoming availability?
Title change is basically from Co-CEO to now CEO, incompasing all areas that Jarrod previously looked after.
She must keep meeting her KPI’s. As a sub par network they’re probably meeting the requirements. They can’t compete any further because they don’t have any major sports rights so they can’t grow their audience share around a compelling content prospect.
Ironically they won’t be able to grow because no sports organizations want a bar of them. It’s a vicious cycle.
Exactly! I can never understand why this woman bears the brunt of all that is wrong with Channel 10 and now Paramount+. I wish 10 would do better but I don’t believe Beverley is the sole reason for any short comings. Rusted on viewers to 7 and 9 and the view by some people that 10 is a Melbourne station and the assumption that it is left wing pushed by right wing outlets such as News Corp, Daily Mail, etc. don’t help ratings.
The buck stops with her as the head, simple.
The sentiment with Bev isn’t just shared on this media forum, it extends well beyond that in the wider industry and within the network too. Fact
The business has made plenty of poor moves (and some not so bad ones) over the years, at the hands of her and her decision making & leadership.
She’s running the place. Stop making excuses.
The simple truth is that if 10 or indeed Paramount ANZ wants to do better, they can do better, but not with Bev in charge. They’re just going in circles with the same old strategies with the token ‘innovation’ that are either a rare hit or common misses.
As for rusted viewers on Seven and Nine, you can’t blame them when they have a credible and stable (quality is another debate) news service and sports for the masses. 10 are way behind in that regard and Bev’s been either oblivious or chose to ignore it and choose her battles. Fair enough if it’s the latter but it’s clearly not working as well as it could be.
But she is also answerable to international management and if they had an issue with whatever she’s doing, they wouldn’t muck about and expand her job title, they’d show her the door.
Maybe Paramount is well aware of Ten’s challenges in the marketplace but not prepared to do anything to give Ms McGarvey the resources to address them. She might have all the plans in the world but if higher up is holding her back then that’s not entirely her fault.
Oh I’m not doubting they’re happy with her performance when it comes to the bottom line, definitely not disputing that.
It’s also easy to be oblivious to things when you’re a couple of thousand miles away.
Doesn’t negate the sentiment towards her leadership at a local level.
Corporations tend to be pretty ruthless with CEOs or key exec staff on large salaries if they are not performing. When you are at that level on prob 500k plus your head is always on the chopping board.
Despite 10’s constant 3rd place position - perhaps she is running the ANZ divsion on P (10, 10Playm P+, Nick, MTV, Pluto) etc as a whole well. And they are pleased. Or there is no one better to do the job.
Either way - when you make 500k plus if you are not permorming you are out.
She must be performing.
Currently 4th placed network, even fighting for 5th spot on Saturdays.
I think it must be this.
Paramount Aus as a whole must be performing well.
At MediaSpy we are just focused on Channel 10. If that’s the failure out of the rest of the portfolio then maybe they just accept it.
ABC does not sell ads. So not really relevant.
What is relevant is youtube, 7, 9, insta, tik tok - people stealing ad dollars.
hence P+ - new revenue stream.
ABC in the US is 4th (telemundo basically number 3 now) Channel 4 in UK is number 3. No one calling for their CEOs to re replaced
SOmeone has the be 3rd.
She’s answerable to the people who run Channel 5 in the UK!
Same people who got Neighbours axed, and shafted Home and Away out of it’s primetime slot.
and maybe they do well?
They are prob comparing Para aseets in US and Argentina, UK/EU and Australia.
Who knows - relative to population and market size Para ANZ might do well.
US is a mess now. Ad dollars are cratering on the cable networks. They are dying. They could see Australia as a robust operation.
Unless you delve into financials hard to know
C5 is actually doing really well.
They are growing market share with more UK dramas
not an excuse though…
10 arguably has more resources than the ABC, being owned by an international conglomerate, they have an opportunity to actually perform, and yet we see such lackluster performance from 10.
It’s not an excuse.
But ABC is not a competitor to Paramount
Youtube is.
Except it’s become evident it isn’t 10’s fault. They clearly have no support from Paramount overlords.
