Paramount Australia & New Zealand

Axe the news totally and replace it with obscure UK or US game shows and dramas? :hushed:

Could they outsource the news if they are required to have news? Pay even less and have someone else do it? Channel 5 uses ITN and has used Sky News in the past.

I guess we don’t have an ITN equivalent here but for TV they could use Sky News (pre CBS flashbacks). Not sure if someone emerging in radio news like AIR News wants to try TV.

ViacomCBS Australia And New Zealand Launch Reconciliation Action Plan.

ViacomCBS Australia and New Zealand yesterday announced the launch of its inaugural Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP), cementing its commitment towards reconciliation with Australia’s First Peoples, as well as embedding positive and sustainable cultural change.

Developed within the framework of Reconciliation Australia’s RAP program, the ViacomCBS Australia and New Zealand RAP centres around the company building meaningful relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, organisations, networks and education bodies. It will also promote reconciliation with internal and external stakeholders and within the media as a whole.

In the coming year, ViacomCBS Australia and New Zealand will expand its NAIDOC and National Reconciliation Week activities to celebrate and empower our First Nations peers and deliver content that acknowledges and champions the diverse histories of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Beverley McGarvey, Chief Content Officer and Executive Vice President, ViacomCBS Australia and New Zealand said: “As leaders in delivering and creating premium content for all Australians, we’re proud to use our voice to advocate a future of cultural understanding and inclusion with First Nations people, as well as leverage our platform to work towards Reconciliation.

“We have a responsibility to drive this change, not only within our own organisation, but within society.”

Karen Mundine, Chief Executive Officer, Reconciliation Australia said: “We are so pleased to welcome the first commercial free-to-air television network to become a partner in reconciliation through our Reconciliation Action Plan program.

“ViacomCBS Australia and New Zealand now join over 1,100 organisations with active RAPs generating economic and behavioural transformation with far-reaching, positive impacts. The RAP shows outstanding commitment from production through to recruitment, retention and professional development strategy.”

From celebrating First Nations cultures and histories to providing more education and employment opportunities, ViacomCBS Australia and New Zealand are excited to advocate for a more inclusive future.

Agreed, we’re at least 2-3 years away from them employing more news staff only to let them go a short while later…

Oh I’m sure there’s more cuts hiding away somewhere… :joy:

There never going back to their Old News Format, 10 are just a Minor Player now in the Game, even before their ViacomCBS Takeover.

The closest thing (and even then, it’s not on TV) would probably be Nine Radio News?

Hate to say it but possibilities would be to sack any remaining talent, and behind the scenes staff and stop any in house production (kids shows etc).

Outsource news (if there’s a legislative requirement at all for it?) and reduce investment in other Australian content so it only meets minimum legislated requirements.

I imagine there would also be savings in consolidating all remaining staff into a single national office.

They’ll probably end up with an office of sales staff and executives and viewers will be subject to as much imported content as possible.

Hope this isn’t the case but I wouldn’t put it past them.

Yes but I guess I was trying to think of places that could possibly take over Ten’s News operation if the opportunity existed.

Could see a lot of flack if Nine took over Ten News. Although not uncommon in the USA with minor players like The CW and MyNetworkTv, imagine the outrage here if there was “Nine News on Ten at Five”.

It wouldn’t be called that. It would just be “10 News First”.

I doubt ACMA or anyone in the feds will allow 10 to let Nine or Seven produce their news. Sky News maybe, given WIN’s precedent. But not Nine or Seven.

However, I have as much faith in ACMA and/or the federal government as an atheist has in God, so they’d let it slide.

As far as I’m aware there’s no legislated obligation for news to air on the metro markets. It’s just 55% Australian content quota and the sub quotas for genres but that doesn’t include news. So 10 could just add the whole department if they wanted. Highly unlikely though.

Don’t give people ideas.

To me the cost savings could be on format licensing - half of Ten’s new schedule seems to be Overseas Show Australia.

I suppose on the other hand that’s the difference between being MasterChef and being Plate Of Origin - but at a certain point you’d think they don’t really benefit from actually having the license - especially for some of the more obscure new formats they are launching.
