Could we see this business show airing at 6.30? And returning to old schedule of 6.30 business 7-9 breakfast?

I think HeraldNow has proven the days of 6-9am morning shows are over. 7-9am hits the sweet spot with a nice balance of news and current affairs and interviews.

Fourth gig in as many years.

Interesting move, for both parties. Wonder if they’ll try and make the show more serious? Sticking with just the two hosts, it sounds like. Probably for the best.

Certainly not my pick but whatever tvnz thinks will work.

Between this and the new business show it’s clear TVNZ still holds the breakfast slot in some sort of regard, especially considering they’re the only major players in town now (Herald Now is still online-only). Hopefully the adjusted format works out.

Hope it works out better than Today FM.
I’m not sure Tova has the requisite light and shade for a breakfast show.

I miss the days of Paul and Pippa. :slightly_frowning_face: There never seems to be any energy or life at Breakfast.

Indira back on Breakfast for the final week of the year with Chris.
Heard Wendy on Newstalk ZB reading the news this morning so they must be alternating.

The Bondi stuff has shown how downhill TV news has gone in this country. Albanese spoke around 9:15am this morning and Breakfast pointed to the website for a live stream - all well and good but you have a staffed newsroom and live show that goes off air at 9am - surely extend and take it? I would have liked to see them go live last night too - it’s all anyone is talking about today.

I’d love to see them dip into Today Australia even for an hour coming out of 9am every day - I know a UK quiz show is undoubtedly cheaper but …

I know budgets are tighter these days but it would’ve have brought gravitas to TVNZ’s coverage if they had Melissa Stokes or John Campbell presenting live from Bondi tonight, going in-depth - especially considering how many Kiwis live in Sydney/Bondi - with Jack Tame presenting the rest of the bulletin in studio and crossing back to Bondi for regular updates during the bulletin. Also having them at the press conferences, doing live one-on-one interviews with police, politicians, etc.

It’s funny because I was watching a few clips when TVNZ 7 was on air and we were so lucky. I mean there were News Updates on Christmas Day in 2009. Obviously a lot has changed in 16 years but we’ve lost so much of the nimbleness in going to air when events like this happen.

I kind of laugh how they point to the 1News website when they are really pushing their OnDemand TVNZ+ News section on the regular. It really shows they’ve kind of lost their way. You’ve got the 6pm Bulletin and that’s it.
Breakfast is there but it really has got no depth in reporting unless it has some lead in from last nights 6pm bulletin like a Political poll or exclusive reporting.

It kind of shows that if it happens outside of Mon to Fri 6am - 9am or 6pm hour. It ain’t worth putting any effort to it to get it on air. It’s a real shame because you’re losing local voices when you switch to an online/foreign stream like ABC, 7 etc. Just a real death spiral to local reporting.

Will TVNZ 1 going to have a Business show from 6 am to 6.30 am in 2026?

I suspect picking Tova has been done with one eye towards next year’s election and strengthening TVNZ’s coverage of it more broadly.

In other words, I’ll be shocked if presenting Breakfast is the only role she’ll have.

She’ll front next year’s election night for sure, and probably the debates as well. Hiring her for Breakfast is definitely a curious choice, though. Good luck to her.

Agreed - probably her and Jack to front election night, maybe of the debates too.

Breakfast is on the roof of TVNZ today, including the news.
It’s been raining but looks relatively nice. Hopefully better when the sun comes up. Audio is terrible though.

Sacha reading news + Indira and Chris hosting with Matt Gibb roving.

I think this time last year it was presented from the inside of the building and had performances for Christmas. Assume similar but from the roof?

About time they utilized that roof, it should be used more often.

Laura Tupou as Breakfast co-host & Tova as chief correspondent would be a better fit imo
