Unsurprising but really poor that there didn’t seem to be any recognition from TVNZ that the Pope had died last night - a flipper or ticker would have sufficed but nothing.

Made worse by the pre-recorded top stories ‘update’ playing out an hour after the news came out with no mention. Probably better just to kill it at that point if it’s not going to have a major story in.

And not even to have the resources to provide a flipper or or ticker across the screen.

No Surprise at all, when the Australian coverage was being discussed on here had a quick look at TVNZ+ to see the TVNZ1 livestream just to see if there was a slight possibility they had something.

I do note that they had a couple of news clips on that TVNZ+ news tab that were up fairly quickly. I reckon TVNZ would defend those two stories as being an adequate response to this event in a ‘digital first’ environment.

Even RNZ covered it on their “Breaking” Banner on their TV feed. Seems uttetly slack TVNZ didn’t/couldn’t do anything.

Honestly just close the TVNZ Newsroom down at this point. It’s shocking but then not at the same time with TVNZ’s lack of coverage.
