I get where you’re coming from, but I actually think TVNZ is deliberately going for a much harder-line approach to its morning news offering next year - moving away from the “lighter” presentation we’ve seen more recently. That feels especially intentional heading into an election year, and it lines up with the launch of the new business news show as well. Overall it looks like a broader shift in tone and ambition.

Back to original 1997 schedule, Business, Breakfast, Newshour, 7pm, News at 10, current affairs, Decision 2026.

Let’s hope presenter lineup is also an improvement.

Sky News may also have few surprises through it’s partnership with other outlets on screen.

Interesting comment. Do you mean Sky TV partnering with other outlets?

Yes, looks to be the way

Melissa still on deck tonight - guessing she will roll through until Xmas Eve.

Simon Mercep’s report tonight was cringe. Just a load of waffling voxxies from people trying to enjoy their day at the beach.

Merry Christmas!

Feels like you could pretty much roll out the same bulletin every year.

City Mission lunch in Auckland as the lead (bonus points for telling us how many KGs of spuds/ham they’ve gone through)
Random spot news
Beach Vox pops - or if it was wet, shots of the wet weather.

Is that a picture of a Seven control room? With The Chase on many of the screens.

Just whipped this up as an idea that I could possibly work on. Inspiration from 1 news, dw news, cbs and apple  don’t know why the clock text decided to move up.

Daniel Faitaua, the forgotten man of TVNZ, fronted the news tonight.

I doubt 1 news will get a new set this year but I would like to see a newer circle desk and one where the sit in the centre. I don’t like this shot for story intros anymore because the images are usually poorly edited and bad quality and don’t really add any variety to presentation.

I’d also love to see them go back in time to days of closer shots. The last cap they could tinker with to use for more important story intros. I believe this time was because it would be a standing intro but she had just interviewed at the desk.

I’d hope there might be some presentation tweaks come Jan 25 but given Tova doesn’t seem to be starting on Breakfast straight away, they may wait until then or around the FIFA WC.

I’d love to see a virtual newsroom background - like the original Newshub one. Recreate the 1News newsroom with real people. Could even be an AR motion background that moves with the camera movement.

Would also like to see more physical set pieces instead of AR. A new desk would be a great start, as well as a hanging LED light ring (like the one from the original set).

I liked those rings and I actually liked seeing the ceiling lights. If they’re going to us AR above the screen think of more clever convincing ways theres something actually there.

Absolutely no point with zero competition around. Maybe if ThreeNews actually upd their game they would do minor tweaks, but wouldn’t expect anything more then a graphics update.
