One News

Still seems like a daft concept.

Amazon Prime, Disney+ and Netflix don’t have lots of news, why would it make sense for TVNZ+ to need news.

Documentaries sure, but documentaries are documentaries - not news.

Daft or not, they probably want a one-stop shop for all their content.

Isn’t 1 news their top show across linear and digital?

Surely a point of difference is a good thing for tvnz+ ?

Hopefully a sign of something decent and a little more professional and some proper opening titles..

I thought they were launching a stand alone business show? Does this mean it’s a show within a show ie Breakfast Business?

AI slop ideas for a new desk. Have a fake virtual newsroom that is looping on the newswall and that can be tracked by cameras to look as if it’s real.

I imagine the business show will be sponsored by Fisher Funds, hopefully means and end to the grifting segments on breakfast.

It’s coming, currently advertising for an EP for the show.

I would like to see it return to a similar structure like 20 odd years ago. Two presenters, a business presenter and a news presenter. (But not have them loitering and playing musical chairs in studio for 3 hours with that previous 4 presenter incarnation)

I’m sure they could get Lucy Bendell to fill that gap as she is in the newsroom anyway at that time of morning.

That reminds me - wasn’t the plan at one stage to have the set actually in the newsroom, like BBC News? I’m sure I read that around 2015 or so. Of course, we got that big massive screen instead.

Not that TVNZ would have the budget to do anything this big, but I’d love to see something like VTM Nieuws in Belgium:

Big screens and the newsroom - best of both worlds.

is any of that newsroom real? or is it virtual?

I wonder if the Business Breakfast will be on TVNZ 1 from 6 am to 6.30 am on Weekdays in 2026?

Just a few final ideas. I always test my mocks on tv when they have no text on boxes. I reckon it doesn’t look too bad.

While NZ is asleep the rest of the world is go go and having a local year round view is just logical especially for the national broadcaster. News doesn’t shut for 2 months

Not a fan of fading-transparent backgrounds. They can vary quite greatly, depending on the TV. Sky Sport’s for example, looks absolute shite on SkyOpen - it doesn’t fade well, and the mixed colours fade at uneven rates. This, above, is probably safer, but could still look untidy depending on the screen.

Never really thought about it that thoroughly before. :person_facepalming:

It’s real, though just to confuse you more, they also show a virtual newsroom on the screens.

I think your graphics look much better than what TVNZ currently use! They should hire you.

Haha heck no. I just have a bit more spare time till next Wednesday as I’m recovering from surgery I had last week. I might try make a package and post it in the mock thread later tonight.

Was also thinking, why don’t Breakfast air short segments of tvnz+ news offerings? Breakfast on the BBC do something similar on weekends.

A segment at a dead part of the 3 hour, fair go, re news reports, clips from marae, tagata pasifka, preview of the weekends q+a?

At the same time though I could see it being a negative as people who watched more worried about getting to work and watch short sharp fast paced news.
