With nz herald taking advantage of socials to get further reach on their coverage surely this will provoke tvnz to do the same again? Their 1News and Breakfast pages only have combined 210k followers (edit: on instagram) and nothing uploaded in 2025.
Iâm sure the reporters can snap a pic/video and upload a story?

Probably a poor executed strategy where TVNZ assumes if they donât upload content to social accounts the audience will magically go to TVNZ+ to access it.
372,000 followers on the Breakfast facebook page and the only content uploaded is their sponsored segments.

Iâd say they probably just made the social media producer for breakfast redundant when they cut a lot of roles and figured people would go to the news page on TVNZ+ for clips from the program.

Tova OâBrien will be joining the Breakfast team sometime in 2026. In the meantime, Ali Pugh is making a return to Breakfast when it resumes next week (26 January).

Itâs funny cos tvnz+ is one of the oldest Broadcast networks to have a streaming platform and still fully donât know how to get the most out of it.

Way better already. That desk, and the look and feel is much better and what they should have stuck with instead of the last few years. Also wish Ali was permanent but definitely looking forward to what Tova brings to the show.
Also PLEASE no AR set extensions, its not needed when you have that massive screen in the background, if you know whatâs possible and how to use it, then you wouldnât need AR.

Ditching the couch for the desk and stool set up in a good improvement. Gives it a more newsy and focused feel.
I forgot about this era of breakfast. Made me realise that the 2020âs era of breakfast hasnât been so bad after all

I think the subtle AR effects work on 1 News and Te Karere but for breakfast it needs toned down a notch or 8.
(If you go back to the finish of most te Karere on YouTube, Scotty likes to have a bit of fun.)

Will the 1 News logo be on Breakfast starting from tomorrow. I would love to see it.
Doubt it. I guess they removed the 1 logo because it wouldnât have looked right sitting on flowers and birds.
As pointless as it is. I personally think the logo looks better as â1 breakfastâ
Letâs hope the graphics feel a bit more Breakfasty too
