Assuming Breakfast returns Jan 19th, i am surprised we are 11 days out and still haven’t seen a promo, team photograph or anything mentioning the return
It’s returning the 26th. And I don’t think Tova is there on day one.
I’ll be honest I’ve never really thought much of Daniel Faitua, but after the last 30 minutes I would have him lead 6pm presenter over Melissa any day. I can’t describe why but it might just because his voice is very mellow with calm authority.

Pretty standard for TVNZ, Breakfast always gets little promotion. Any it does get doesn’t last long.

It’ll be tricky to do a campaign for Breakfast at the moment when it doesn’t know when its new co-host will be able to join the show, let alone that fact being able to be promoted.

1News is essentially dead but they haven’t been able to establish TVNZ+ as a news destination as yet.
They still need the 1News website while they do so.

I still can’t comprehend how a flagship breakfast program can be off air for almost 2 month and they wonder why viewership lacks

We just don’t have the viewership to sustain a summer breakfast show tbh. They tried it once for summer 2001/2002 but it only lasted a year. One would think that HeraldNow would return early to try and secure a few more eyeballs away from Breakfast.

Nope. Auckland is still pretty much dead quiet apart from the tennis and other cities are still quite deserted too.

How odd. Andrew Saville opening tonight with the story about the AB’s coach getting the boot, then Kate Wells presenting the Sport 40 minutes later.

Not that odd. He’s their rugby reporter and broke the story - perhaps was never scheduled to read.
I am informed that, as of this week (at the time of writing), Laura Tupou (ex-RNZ, Newshub, ThreeNews) has just joined TVNZ.
This was announced in November 2026. She started on Monday but isn’t on air yet.
