FRIDAY NIGHT PANTHERS V ROOSTERS

STREAM NRL FOR FREE ON 9NOW

The battles will come from all directions before finishing on the beaches in a blockbuster weekend of NRL on Nine, starting tonight at 7.30 on Channel 9HD and 9Now.

Shining brightly at the top of the table, the Brisbane Broncos head south to Melbourne for Thursday Night Footy where they’ll have to fight their way through the Storm, who have not lost to the Broncos at AAMI Park since 2016.

Instigating the points for the Broncos will be wily halfback Adam Reynolds and excitement machines Reece Walsh and Selwyn Cobbo, but Melbourne’s magic man Cameron Munster will have a few tricks of his own up his sleeve to inspire a Storm victory.

East meets west on Friday Night Footy when the Roosters travel to the premiership- winning Panthers den in Penrith, out to claim a big scalp in a return to top form.

Aggressive powerhouse forwards James Fisher-Harris and Jared Waerea-Hargreaves will collide, setting a spectacle of their own at the foot of the mountains, while the influence of Roosters fullback James Tedesco and Panthers playmaker Nathan Cleary shapes the outcome of the contest.

Sunday Arvo Footy features the battle of Sydney’s beaches between the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles and Cronulla Sharks.

Sharks playmaker and NSW State of Origin hopeful Nicho Hynes gets a shot at taking on Queensland and Manly halfback Daly Cherry-Evans, in an encounter featuring Nine experts and Origin coaches Billy Slater and Brad Fittler in commentary from 3.00pm.

Rare main channel coverage in Melbourne tonight. Will be interesting to see how it goes without AFL competition.

I saw another press release from Nine yesterday that it would show the Storm’s remaining primetime matches of the season on main channel in Melbourne. It apparently only referred to matches produced by the network though.

Well yeah, given Nine don’t carry Fox-exclusive games in Melbourne…

It would be good to see the Storm on free to air every game in VIC the same as the NSW and QLD AFL teams are in those states.

All Storm games were on Melbourne FTA for a period in the early 2000s.

Only for a year or two IIRC and every game home or away the Storm played was in a Saturday 3pm timeslot to cater for this coverage. Former AFL player Michael Roberts hosted the GTV-specific coverage on Nine.

NRL on Nine launches Indigenous Round with Solid Rock and Goanna

Nine’s Wide World of Sports has today launched NRL Indigenous Round with Central Station Records and Warner Music Group.

Using Goanna’s legendary Aussie track Solid Rock featuring William Barton with Goanna, Moss and Tasman Keith, NRL on Nine will kick off a week of celebration for First Nations people.

The promo campaign, unveiled on the Today Show this morning, has Indigenous All Stars Nicho Hynes and Quincy Dodd, dancing alongside the Mugerra Dance Group before Johnathan Thurston signals the launch of the round, where three big games will be shown live and free on Channel 9HD and 9Now

Goanna said: “We are proud to stand with the next generation of talented First Nations artists, Moss, Tasman Keith and William Barton, honouring and re-imagining our song, ‘Solid Rock,’ for the NRL’s Indigenous Round, passing the torch down the generations.

“Along with Nine’s Wide World of Sports and the Mugerra dancers, we offer it as a celebration of the unique contribution that First Nations players have made to NRL, past, present and future.”

The Broncos and Panthers will begin Indigenous Round at Suncorp Stadium on Thursday Night Footy with the thrilling trio of Selwyn Cobbo, Reece Walsh and Kotoni Staggs on the hunt for back-to-back wins against the defending premiers.

Then on Friday Night Footy Latrell Mitchell and the top of the table Rabbitohs meet on Gadigal land at Allianz Stadium, where the Eels are desperate for two competition points to end their losing streak.

Sunday Arvo Footy features the Raiders and Sea Eagles in Canberra where all eyes will be on Tom Trbojevic in his final chance to find form before State of Origin selection.

Be watching the Sunday Footy Show from 11.00am when State of Origin coaches Billy Slater and Brad Fittler face off for the final time on the panel before the Queensland and NSW teams are announced.

Main channel coverage is a change from previous schedule advice.

Will Women’s State of Origin game 1 be shown live on main channel in Tasmania? It normally relays Nine programming from Melbourne apart from the news.

Online guides show the match as being shown live on 9Gem in the Apple Isle.

Nine’s official guide and on-line has the game on 9Gem; so this is late advice of a change.

Looks like main channel coverage in ADL and PER too!

I have to give some credit to Nine - they do a bit more to promote the game with main channel prime time coverage in the AFL states than what 7 does for the AFL in NSW and QLD… also helps that there is a "marquee’ series like Origin that the AFL doesn’t have.
