Nine Network - Programs and Schedules

Yeah, I was actually thinking about this the other day, yes Seven’s Blow Up did worse, but what you could argue is relatively negligible in comparison and surely a cheaper production than what you can clearly see is very expensive in Summit (even if credit for production values), are the shows’ runs similar lengths? Also the latter being in the Sunday timeslot adds to more pressure being Nine too possibly. And IMO still reckon unlike Seven’s, Nine were quietly expecting (hoping?) for big things from this, let alone the marketing that went into it and right down to plugs from Nine News anchor on-air and personalities’ social media, like what Ninja was in at least 2017.

Each episode of The Summit can be up to 2 hours in length. That three nights a week is a lot more to make up for Nine than Blow Up with one 90 min and one 65 minute each week.

I wonder what Seven are thinking with Million Dollar Island. The parallels are very close.

In addition to tonight’s episodes of The Summit, Nine is also airing (i assume part 1) of The Summit at 2.30pm (until 4.30pm). My tv guide initially had the show starting at 1pm and finishing at 4.30pm.

Having seen every episode, you wouldn’t have missed anything if you didn’t watch episode 1. I think a big problem with first episode was that too much of it was bogged down by explanation of how the show worked - it’s why ep 2 and 3 were better.

I wouldn’t be so sure about that, yes you make a fair point, however with a reality show across multiple nights you really need that contestant back-story, development and connection from the get go, especially to follow all the way through and there might be other crucial series plot points (‘confected drama’ as wel) and the like. Knoxy at TVT also made this point on his site Lounge today regarding this, the missed opportunity against the might of Farmer and the landslide () of encores/repeats including, including more day time today and tomorrow as another user there and Yellow_Sock mentions above. I’m definitely keen to see what happens now…

Expedition Everest

Tuesday 30 May 8:40 PM

In a groundbreaking expedition on Mount Everest, dozens of scientists converge to investigate what secrets the world’s highest peak has to tell us about our changing climate.

This morning, I spoke to Channel Nine Perth on the phone about the State of Origin Schedules. I asked them about the State of Origin schedules. However, a staff member told me that I have to call them tomorrow. The State of Origin will be played on the 31 May at Adelaide Oval. However, this will clash with the French Open. Channel Nine Perth is a joke.

How are they a joke?

Your call - outside business hours and on a Sunday - probably was directed somewhere where they wouldn’t have the slightest clue what the schedule is like in 10 days time.

apparently the programming department take weekends off, who knew?

The Perth schedule has been posted now. Note The SOO commences at 5pm on 9Gem before moving to the main channel after 30 minutes.

In Adelaide SOO also starts on 9Gem at 6:30pm before main channel coverage.

Update - Nine has pulled Lost On Everest from Tuesday’s (tomorrow’s) schedule.

Tuesday 23 May

08:40 pm Million Dollar Murders Rpt
Gary Allibon was ambushed during a robbery on his cash transit van in the middle of Sydney’s CBD in 2010. He was due to retire within eight months, when he was fatally shot in the back. He had his hands up surrendering, when he was murdered. Despite extensive investigations at the time and over the past decade, no one has been charged over Allibon’s murder. MDM and NSW Police name the main suspect and reveal new information that may help the public bring justice for Gary’s widow Monica.

Pure speculation on my part, may be in response to the death of an Australian today on Mt Everest.

TVT running with an article suggesting the same, I commented there how the networks and for some unfortunate reason Nine are always good at doing this, in better taste. Also good at tribute broadcasts, such as Ten’s “Mrs Doubtfire” in 2013 after Robin Williams’ tragic passing and rated big.

If you go up Mt Everest there’s a pretty good chance you’ll die. 10 have this year already. I think it would be informative as a doco but I can see why they pulled it.

Schedule change in Melbourne tonight with Footy Classified brought forward to 10.00pm due to the breaking news in the AFL with Richmond coach Damien Hardwick to quit.

Should be 9pm for this major news

Firstly, is this confirmed, wow! Secondly, yeah I was going to say, 10pm? Meh, negligible difference, 9pm would’ve been better. I’m sure the show/GTV would’ve tried to ask programming, but must’ve been knocked back, in favour of network first run RPA play-out (ratings? contractual/commercial?)
