Watch for the misogynists start whinging about how they should’nt have women calling the footy. ![]()
According to The Australian’s Media Diary, 2GB has been accused of being disrespectful towards Ray Hadley for not inviting him to an exclusive lunch at Barangaroo in Sydney on Thursday, February 19, to celebrate 40 years of Continuous Call Team. Hadley is CCT’s sole surviving founder (he started the show with Peter Frilingos in 1987) and had worked on the show for over three decades. 2GB started insisting late on Sunday that the event was only ever for “current working members and major commercial partners”.
Ray Hadley also confirmed the snub to The Daily Telegraph.
Ouch! That is a bit off for Nine to bar Hadley from the event. Who did he piss off for that to happen?
They clearly don’t like Hadley. I’m sure he would have liked to call the odd game or continue his country music show but they’ve completely cut ties. Will be interesting to see if that continues with new ownership.
He was one of Singo’s boys so maybe 9 wanted to cut ties with the old firm.
Triple M are calling the Charity Shield, I wonder if they’ll be doing the Dolphins vs Titans game tonight (usually cover QLD games) or the Broncos trial later on the weekend.
EDIT: No radio coverage of that trial.
ABC Radio will have live coverage of both women’s and men’s Maori v Indigenous All-Stars matches, live from Hamilton, New Zealand, this afternoon.
Glen Lauder is leading the call, which will be heard on Local Radio in NSW, ACT and QLD, and on ABC Listen app across Australia.
Not much improvement. Triple M are the Continious Call Team: The Early Years Before CTE Takes Its Toll.
Why does the NRL need multiple networks covering the same game? They do know having one commercial broadcaster having exclusive rights does increase the value of said rights, right?
The ABC airs all games because the likes of ARN in regional areas don’t take any NRL coverage because they’re cheap, yes I get. But surely you do not need MMM AND 2GB AND SEN airing the games. Pick one. This is not a buffet.
There’s not a single person on that Triple M list that would make me want to listen to their coverage.
It’s unlikely they’d get the value they wanted for exclusive rights from an individual broadcaster - and unlikely 2GB/Triple M would want every match too possibly. So easier to bundle together.
And when Triple M gets to cover a Storm game, it is often only available in Melbourne on the LiSTNR app, not on FM radio and/or DAB+. It happens even if there is no AFL match on that timeslot.
SEN info
I would assume that none of the radio stations will actually physically be in Las Vegas for the call?
I think 2GB might be, Levy’s doing his show from Vegas during the week.
Looks like SEN will be there with this post
I thought radio stations are happy to save money and sit in a studio.
Some might be treating it as an excuse to wine and dine the bigger clients over in Vegas, claim it as a business expense and write it off.
ABC probably will be calling it from a studio because they’re “being responsible with tax payers money”.
Similarly to the TV scenario I suspect the NRL might be footing some of the bill to get people on the ground
Triple M are in Vegas as well. All will be except ABC which as we said last year would be very off brand plus it is on the tax payers dollar.
They also wouldn’t be able to accept any ‘free’ travel subsidised by the NRL.
