SEN heads to Las Vegas for historic NRL broadcast

Sports Entertainment Network (SEN) is thrilled to be heading to Las Vegas this weekend to broadcast live from Round One of the 2025 NRL Telstra Premiership Season at Allegiant Stadium.

SEN will broadcast the opening two games of the NRL season – Canberra Raiders v New Zealand Warriors, followed by 2024 Premiers, the Penrith Panthers, taking on the Cronulla Sharks – with SEN Stadium being available for fans in-stadium to listen to the commentary without delay.

This marks a significant milestone for SEN, with it being the first time SEN Stadium will be delivered outside of Australia.

To ensure the best experience for fans, SEN will deploy state-of-the-art hardware on site to deliver the lowest latency possible. The live calls – featuring the commentary team of Joel Caine and Tim Mannah - will be available through the SEN App, providing fans with an unparalleled listening experience.

Fans can learn more about SEN Stadium and our innovative broadcasting solutions at senstadium.com.

SEN CEO, Craig Hutchison, expressed his excitement about this groundbreaking initiative.

ā€œWe are incredibly proud to bring our cutting-edge broadcasting technology to the international stage. This is a significant step for SEN as we continue to innovate and provide the best possible experience for our listeners. Broadcasting the NRL from Las Vegas is a testament to our commitment to delivering high-quality sports commentary to fans around the world.ā€

Back home, SEN is teaming up with Clubs NSW to launch three outside broadcast watch parties and pre-game shows across the state to bring the excitement of Vegas to listeners.

SEN 1170am will be on location in Campbelltown at Wests Leagues Club (8-11am on air), hosted by Jimmy Smith and Brett Kimmorley; Tamworth at Wests Tamworth Leagues Club (11am-1pm on air), hosted by Glen Hawke and Adam Blair; and Parramatta Leagues Club (1-3pm on air), hosted by Julian King and Mark Carroll.

Clubs NSW is staging 22 watch parties across the state, with your local club being the home of the Official NRL Vegas Watch Party.

ā€œWe love that Clubs NSW is launching watch parties all over regional and metro NSW to gather people together in fabulous venues and experience the games together,ā€ Hutchison continued. ā€œWe look forward to sharing the fun of three venues across our airways with coverage from 8am.ā€

Game one of the 2025 NRL Telstra Premiership Season will kick off at 11am AEDT on Sunday 2 March between the Raiders and Warriors, following by the clash between Penrith and Cronulla at 3.30pm AEDT.

Triple M will be using TalkSports callers for the Super League game

I can’t fathom why you would broadcast a Super League game in Australia on radio.

The same ilk that thought putting on NZ vs India cricket over Swans AFLW matches in Sydney is a grand idea. Granted, wrong network, but there’s a type of programmer whose hobbies outside of work include sticking their heads in the sand.

Also, it is Sunday morning. Are they really worried about the ratings on Sunday morning?

Well, I can understand NZ v India cricket because that’s something listeners at least get exposure to regularly through both teams playing Australia and their general worldwide profile. And it was a high profile test series. Tough vs AFLW, yes but I can see some rationale there, but exposing Australian audiences to the Super League seems like cruel and unusual punishment.

You’re right re: ratings dead zone but I don’t know that any positives outweigh the negatives.

This was SEN I was referring to, a station who couldn’t find relevance in Sydney even if it was passing out free sessions with people of a certain profession. Mind you, neither can Triple M Sydney as it stands. This would have been a fantastic opportunity. Something, get this, NOVA did very well.

Both stations have an app - they could direct the listeners to said app for that match.

I was at Henson Park that day, and do like listening to the footy commentary whilst I’m there. The ABC were equally as useless, but to air a match not involving 2 teams that aren’t Australia, and really would only get traction in certain suburbs of Western Sydney, is proof Hutchy is a fucking idiot. And Triple M management aren’t fair behind.

If you really love your UK ā€œSuperā€ League, you’d be at home watching it on Kayo. I guess Triple M are trying to keep in PVL’s ā€œdo not whackā€ list?

Also, here’s an idea for both stations. Bring these back. Make sure you have the station name and frequency and website on them.

Its an odd one - imagine its only so they can claim they broadcast the ā€˜complete’ Vegas event

They forget that UK Super League is to rugby league what Australian Super Rugby teams are to rugby union. Useless.

It’s not the complete Vegas event unless we get a re-enactment of whatever the Raiders did with the baseball bat, there’s a dead hooker in the bath room and half the players lose their money, pants and anything else of value.

I don’t mind it being covered as a league head, but I think the main reasoning would be if people are out/working and trying to chose a station to listen to, the coverage has already started on Triple M

Are half of 2GB’s team over in Vegas, leaving Levy and MG in Sydney to do the show as a combo?

Levy I’d understand, given his weekday duties, but MG…you’d think he’d be over there.

Brett Sprigg, Matthew Elliott and Kiana Takairangi (Sharks NRLW player) will call the women’s international between Australia and England for ABC Radio from Sydney, even though the match is held in Las Vegas.

Andrew Moore, Luke Lewis and John Gibbs are commentators for the season opener between Raiders and Warriors.

It’s been established that the ABC is not doing Vegas on location for budget reasons, ditto with Nine.

I reckon next year all broadcasters will be doing it from Sydney, for budget reasons, with DAZN probably looking to cut the fat.

I think the NRL are covering a lot of Fox/DAZN’s costs as host broadcaster.

And they couldn’t expand that to the ABC or Nine? or anyone else for that matter?

I hope in the long term this Vegas shit blows up in their face and they have to stop. If it’s all about trying to expand the game into the US, good fucking luck, it’s not going to happen, they have their own sport and they’re becoming more insular.

Try Canada PVL you gronk.

Or a market that actually wants more league, like Perth or Adelaide.

I’d be moving Magic Round, another concept that can die in the arse, to Perth or Adelaide.
