Now see… did 3AW axe the call half way through with Penrith winning?

So why did CCT have to do this during the AFL GF?

Whether it’s through live-match commentary, engaging discussions or in-depth player interviews, audio has a unique ability to connect people to the game like never before.

Following Ray Hadley’s announcement this week of his retirement from 2GB, he did an exclusive interview with The Daily Telegraph’s David Riccio about his sporting commentary career, especially rugby league.

Best match Ray had called: Brisbane v Penrith, 2022 grand final
Best try he had called: Mark Coyne’s miracle try for Queensland in the 1994 State of Origin series at the Sydney Football Stadium
Ray’s “pinch myself” moment: Australia’s win over England in the 1991 Rugby World Cup final at Twickenham
Favourite stadium: Allianz Stadium or Commbank Stadium
Worst place Ray had called a big game: Lang Park
Worst place he called any game from: Newcastle before it became McDonald Jones Stadium
Greatest players he ever called: Wally Lewis, Andrew Johns, Johnathan Thurston and Nathan Cleary
Favourite sporting moment: calling Cathy Freeman’s 400m final at the 2000 Sydney Olympics

Pitchford, best known as a panel operator and production guru, steps in for Mark Levy, who’s scaling back after taking over Ray Hadley’s weekday slot.

NewsCorp:

The ABC has also decided against sending a team to Vegas, giving a free kick to Triple M and 2GB, who’ll be calling from Allegiant Stadium.

We approached the ABC to ask why. “Remote commentary is a practice increasingly adopted by broadcasters globally, across every code of sport,” a spokesperson said.

“Advances in broadcasting technology allow us to maintain the immediacy and quality our listeners expect, while ensuring we remain vigilant with public resources.

Vegas weekend isn’t very “ABC”.
I’m under the assumption they are probably the best of the radio broadcasters of calling from the ground?

Yes, ABC are almost always at the ground. New Zealand games are called from a studio, but otherwise they’re at the ground. Very occasionally a logistical issue or staff illness prevents it, but rarely.

Reads like they’re taking talkSport’s commentary for the Super League game but then having their own commentary for the other three games.

I think you’re right actually - ignore me.

I think Ttiple M are providing commentary to talkSport

Ben Dobbin is calling the first 3 and Dan Ginnane calling the final game of the day.
