Go back to the no more then 2 ads in a row!
They canât even avoid the same ad twice in a block of ads these days.
Unfortunately thatâs commercial radio these days⌠Take as much money as you can and do whateverâs necessary to make it kinda work. At least theyâre not doing 10 minute as breaks like the HIT network seem to love doing.
I agree that the flashback thing is the wrong thing to do.
That being said, since Paul Jackson took the reins, Nova has been basically a carbon copy of Capital London, even the imaging is very similar - Smooth is basically a carbon copy of Smooth London (perhaps with some tendency towards Heart London).
Nova tends to be quite consistent, but they seem to consistently pull 6s and 7s.
I wouldnât be surprised if this throwback thing is another content copy - either from overseas or from 2DAY.
The thinking might be that if the small number of people listening to 2DAY are doing so because of their music, if Nova can position themselves similarly, they might be able to steal a percentage point or two from 2DAY.
Donât think it will work. Honestly, I think Nova going back to its irreverent days, no more than 2 ads Iâm a row, being the âcoolâ station a la mid-2000s would probably see them get to a better ratings position. Probably not a winning one though.
Both 2Day and Kiis are using âold schoolâ for their crusty oldies so I guess Nova are imitating again rather than innovating.
I listened to Novaâs Throwback Thursday this week and quite enjoyed it. It reminded me of what Nova was like a few years ago when they would do a whole week of âold schoolâ and play some hits that were in the top 10-20 over the last 20 years and havenât received airplay since they were hits. I found it was a lot more refreshing and nicer to listen to then hit105âs âhits and old schoolâ which sounds too much like 97.3 playing the same old songs over and over.
Interesting to note that Throwback Thursday came from NEâs Coles Radio where they do the same thing.
According to Radio Today, Tony Martin will drop into Sam Pangâs chair on Chrissie, Sam and Browny breakfast show on Nova 100 for two weeks from next Monday (May 9), while Sam travels to Sweden to co-host SBSâs coverage of the Eurovision Song Contest. Sam will return to Nova on May 18.
I love Tony Martin but I feel a lot of his humour will bypass Novaâs audience.
Santo Cilauro filled in for Sam Pang on Chrissie, Sam and Browny this morning. Santo also took Samâs place on Friday Front Bar, which was filmed last night to be shown on Seven after the AFL tonight.
SAM THAIDAY SWAPS FOOTY ON SATURDAYS FOR NOVA 106.9
One of Brisbaneâs most loved Broncos players, Sam Thaiday, is swapping his footy boots for a radio mic every Saturday morning from May 14 with the launch of a new weekend breakfast show from 8am-9am on Nova 106.9 - Thank God itâs Thaiday!
The show will expose a different side to Sam Thaiday, who will be joined in the studio by television identity Kimberley Busteed and Nova 106.9 announcer, Katie Mattin.
Thank God itâs Thaiday! isnât about Sam the footballer - instead this show is about everything else Sam does and loves - music, gardening, cooking and his role of being a father and husband and is set to showcase his natural storytelling abilities and wicked sense of humour.
Nova 106.9 General Manager and Programming Director Jay Walkerden said he was excited Sam was now officially part of the Nova Brisbane family.
âSam is both a much loved local as well as a Nova listener favourite having been a regular contributor to the Ash, Kip & Luttsy breakfast show for the past five years,â Walkerden said.
"We are thrilled to have Sam step up to the mic and host his own show every Saturday alongside Kimberley Busteed and Katie Mattin.
"Iâm confident this talented trio will kickstart the weekend with content that our listeners will love.
âI look forward to listeners discovering a new side to Samâs life, who is sure to share his stories with his trademark sense of humour which makes him a great fit for the Nova family.â
Walkerden has a definite skill for finding and honing radio talent.
Walkerden gave former Brisbane Lions captain Jonathan âBrownyâ Brown his first radio break. Browny was a regular contributor on Ash, Kip & Luttsy before going on to host a Saturday morning show on Nova 106.9 before landing his current gig on Novaâs Melbourne breakfast show opposite popular TV presenter Chrissie Swan and comedian Sam Pang.
Walkerden also brought the golden girl of Australian swimming, Susie OâNeill, into the Nova 106.9 family last year. Susie appears on the Ash, Kip & Luttsy breakfast show every Tuesday and Wednesday.
One of the UKâs best known & accomplished broadcasters, Greg Burns, whoâs currently hosting the #1 drive show for Capital FM in London, will be joining Nova 96.9 from July to present mornings.

I wonder what will happen to the current morning announcer, the Nova 96.9 workday announcers are DC & Harlee.
Maybe this is the start of one of Sydneyâs FM stations building up a following for its DJs. Nowadays the only talent that is promoted is the breakfast and / or drive hosts. In the 80s and 90s the music stations had DJâs that were household names. Think Rob Duckworth on Triple M, Charlie Fox or Dan Craig on 2SM, David Rymer on 2DayFM or Pete Rudder on 2UW
Itâs a competitive advantage to not only sell the music between 9am and 3pm (and on weekends) but also the DJ who is on air.
I wonder if Greg Burns (surely not his real name) has a cool London accent?
His real name is Burnsie.
All of the above?
Tony Martin is back on Nova 100 tomorrow morning filling in for a sick Chrissie Swan.
Chrissie, Sam and Browny: The secret tactics behind their success
they rate 6.4 - what success?
Chrissie Swan returned to the airwaves this morning after being sick for two days.
Seriously? Youâre going to track every disease and absence now?
On the positive side, I discovered we have a rolling eyes emoji on the board now.
Just heard that Chrissie got off the toilet from having a brownie
Will keep you updated
