Nine (WIN)

Buying half a football team for a bit of ambush marketing. That’d be special.

Remember how Seven refused to show WAFL games involving West Perth who were sponsored by Nine News? I don’t think Nine has the control over fixturing and which teams they get to show that they once did.

That’s a good point!

I dare say camera angles will be carefully chosen and that Nine may revert to calling the ground by an alternative name, perhaps Wollongong Showground (as I think it used to be called ???). This is what the ABC does, for instance, they still refer to Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane as Lang Park I think.

Ugh, that WIN early evening lineup promo is terrible.

They should have got Ten to produce it for them to get something of a higher quality like this

Ten News Revolution

Damn I almost forgot WIN took TEN News back then, I actually still wonder why they took TEN News and not Nine’s.

They’ve got ten years to make up their minds

There may be some contractual arrangements regarding how sponsored stadiums are referred to on sporting broadcasts.

Old Bruce didn’t like Eva, owner of 9 Perth at the time. Sounds like something you’d hear from Ayr.

This is the sponsor billboard @SydneyCityTV was talking about.

I really think the WIN logo should be circular with a blue background with a white font similar to the ten logo from July 1.

I think it should be like you’re describing too, but it won’t be. WIN have always wanted to do things their own way. Changing their logo/brand to that I think would be quite a shock to many people especially those in Ayr near Townsville. At least they’ve changed the colouring to a darker blue to be more like Ten.

It’s the only element of branding that WIN is able to keep consistent between now and post-July I think it’s understandable they don’t change it. Maybe further down the track when the Ten connection is more established it might make sense but WIN has for the last decade sought to not directly mimic Nine’s logo so I imagine they’ll want to do the same with Ten.

WIN will probably use the same watermark as well could be confusing. Noticed last night WIN News just said Local instead of Central West guess they have been making little changes since the new deal.

Maybe WIN will be combining a few bulletins in the near future? Might be easier if they are all called WIN News Local.

i think they have to still use their logo until the affiliation runsout

Nine is still negotiating with WIN over the affiliation deal for Tas, SA, Griffith, Mildura and WA.

“We have failed to date to make meaningful progress with WIN but continue to press for a solution".

said Sean O’Brien, Nine SA manager. They are arguing over the price.

If no deal is done I wonder what the response would be from joint venture owners Prime and SCA? And what would ACMA do? If government policy has been for three commercial licences to be available in all areas, would ACMA take a use it or loose stand with WIN, cancel the licences and auction them off?

I agree!
I think it’s a smart move to keep the logo and branding the same for the time being.
I actually think they’ll probably keep WIN News graphics, etc. the same beyond July 1 as well.

Keep it the same for a few months and maybe relaunch it next year after everyone knows WIN shows TEN programs.

Ah WIN, the always difficult stubborn little tv channel whose bark is more scary than it’s bite.

With Ten and Seven tied up, and 18 multi channels Foxtel, Stan, Optus, Presto and Netflix owning basically 100% of content avail - what does WIN think it will program its stations with in TAS and SA?

Hardly cost ejective to buy and programs a channel 24/7 for 600,000 people.

I would love to see Nine not sign a deal by June 30 - and see what WIN airs at midnight. Would love to see that happen.

Viewers in TAS and SA can watch win 9Now - no biggie. Nine can just take out radio, print and Facebook advertisi9ng targeted to TAS and SA saying watch all your fave Nine shows on 9Now - for free!

I bet a lot of viewers especially older viewers here in SA, as well as Tasmania, would still like to watch Nine programming on Television, rather than online via 9Now, I still think a deal will be agreed even it it takes up to 11.59pm on June 30.
