The WIN promos look good, like the green background.

It wouldn’t cost the regionals much to carry the extra channels.

The metros supply ALL of the programming, promos etc, all they do is insert their own ads.

Obviously it would cost a fair bit to set up the infrastructure, but after that it wouldn’t cost the regionals that much to carry the extra channels would it?

At the very least, surely WIN could carry 9Life from the nearest capital city (I can confirm that 9Life is definitely localised for Sydney now, as I saw an ad for 2DayFM on there) until it’s ready to run versions with local advertising?

But. I have seen Sydney ads on 9 Life, so adversiting does have something to do with a station decision whether to offer a new channel or not. I’m not sure that people in regional areas would mind seeing national ads with no connection to the local area on 9 life.

I can’t see Bruce handing over a channel to run Sydney ads which gives Nine extra reach, and which he gets no financial benefit from

I wonder when WIN will update there prg?

Don’t speak too soon, wait until eXtra is rolled out into WIN territory first!

Yeah its been a while they need a fresh look. I wonder why WIN have dots on GEM logo when they use there own watermark on time shift programs.

Would that actually happen?

I wouldn’t think so, not while they’re running GOLD and GOLD +2.

It doesn’t quite work like that.

Television is paid for by advertising. The regional TV advertising market is down by 7% last year. There is not even enough ad dollars to support the current channels. Where does this extra advertising revenue come from? WIN only makes revenue from 9Life if it can sell advertising for all the local markets, and even then it must pay 40% of that or so to Nine - but with WIN and other broadcasters struggling to sell ads on the main channels - I’m not sure how we expect them to sell on another niche channel.

WIN is not going to pay to broadcast 9Life into all its markets (and yes there are costs involved) and carry Sydney ads or Melbourne ads to 100’s of 1000s of people for free as a charity. If they cant monetize 9Life it won’t get carried. They are not going to carry the channel at a loss. There needs to be a business case for it.

They need to be able to sell the ads, then put the people in place to schedule the ads and do media buying (sales - that is no small task) then they need to technology to do all the different feeds. It’s quite an undertaking.

Given the alternative for WIN is that people just start streaming it from 9Now - and get used to that and do it for all Nine programming, it’s still worth it for WIN.

That’s the business case. Carry the channel, or people will go elsewhere (eg. 9Now). Do I think 9Life will draw enough people to the platform to be an issue? No, but I can see it starting a precedent.

And the question then becomes why WIN should pay so much to Nine if they don’t have exclusivity?

Because you’d rather have non-exclusive Nine than exclusive Ten?

I wouldn’t go that far…

I wonder why WIN have dots on GEM logo when they use there own watermark on time shift programs.[/quote]You would assume it’s to keep the presentation somewhat consistent. Mind you, they still use the old pink coverup when ‘GEM presents’ airs, and the dots are missing off the promos. Who really knows with WIN. Such a mess.

I don’t think Win is in a hurry to show 9Life. Probably will launch after June if at all. One thing is for sure it will be online before it ends up on free to air .

@markyinau We’re working with broadcasters to ensure everyone can view 9Life as soon as possible!

@MarkHD isn’t that the canned response?
