Nine (WIN)

Perhaps it means that WIN can somehow run a one hour national news possibly via local windows followed by ACA instead of 90 minutes of news with ACA on GEM.

So was I - the point is that they do those services because they are viable in those areas, based on the market position.

When you’ve got Prime/Seven and/or WIN competing against them in a market where they rate half of what Seven/Nine affiliated stations do, then it’s not surprising they don’t have full service local news.

If you instead had SC with a Nine affiliation, and WIN with Ten - WIN would probably nuke their news on day one, leaving Victoria and parts of SNSW without any local news, I would expect either SCA or Prime7 to launch local news in those areas - because there’s certainly room for one.

I agree SCA could do more with their resources - but I don’t think SC Ten’s service is an indicator to what a Nine aligned SC would deliver newswise.

Yeah that’s what I’m thinking. News programs are duplicated but actual news stories aren’t, so he must have been referring to the 90m chunk. Also, is he talking in a post-merger context or does he/WIN want these changes now?

It could just be avoiding the current situation of having a Nine journalists covering an item in WIN territory that is already being covered by WIN.

Ditto some of the WIN produced promos that are currently dotless.

Even if Nine and WIN merged, I’m sure they’d still get a Sydney-based reporter like Damien Ryan to cover major stories that happen in regional NSW for the Sydney bulletin (for instance).

If a merger took place do you think it would still be called 9 or 9win or something like that.
Hasn’t Gordon always wanted to play a big part in a metro station.

My guess is it world be 9. Although a great homage would be if the combined company launched an mpeg4 multichannel that is nonstop game shows and called it 9Win. (Including QuizMania)

The corporate name could something like Nine WIN Entertainment (a bit like Seven West Media) but the on air branding would probably be straight Nine.

for Nine to compete properly nationally, its whole branding should be Nine… I’m looking at you too NBN.

Watching Go via WIN they had a signpost fro tonight with dots voice over saying 9go as well. Looked new does WIN normally show these.

Have notice that over the last few days… Looks good.

Yeah it looked quite good. No new promos on WIN that I’ve seen. Wonder if they get a refresh now with the new deal.

Finally saw a WIN promo with the new graphics

WIN using the new lineups now.

I notice the VO doesn’t call it 9GEM though. Good to see them use the official logo though with no coverup. Are they still using their homemade promos as well or is it just these now?

So the night before I leave WIN territory, they update their graphics.

Typical.

Caught this though

I thought as soon as a new agreement was made with 9 that WIN might announce 9Life but looks like we won’t be getting it anytime soon or HD for that matter.

Maybe the new agreement is only to keep the existing setup running for six months. If you were a business and knew that either in six months you’d be switching affiliation or possibly being purchased, you probably wouldn’t want to spend too much to implement anything. I don’t think adding hd or 9life will increase the value of WIN much compared to the outlay.

9 Life and 9 HD is not likely to arrive in regional areas currently served by WIN until either WIN or SC merges or is bought by nine. Which means that regional areas might have to wait at least the 3rd or 4th quarter of 2016 at the earliest.

I hope I am wrong and would like to be proven wrong on this, but there’s little or no point starting up new channels for the time being until a more permanent arrangement is sorted out.

The advertising markets in WIN areas simply may not be large enough to support a 4th channel of 24 hours of ad supported programming. To be honest I’m surprised some smaller markets can fill out and support 7TWO, 7mate, one, 11, 9Gem, 9Go etc. That is a lot of extra advertising needed to support these channels. And with only so many ad dollars in the market, and regional TV advertising declining by close to 7% last year - where is all this advertising going to come from to Support 9Life in the smaller markets?
