I think WIN must have read this forum in regards to the coverup logo :stuck_out_tongue:

Watching 9 News Now right now on WIN HD. The 9news.com.au logo and the weather report are covered with solid red, and the clock is appearing.
Looks pretty weird just having this big red box on the screen with nothing in it apart from a little clock.

NRL starting tonight at 7:30pm AEDT (6:30pm QLD time).
Because this is during 9 News, the first half hour 6:30pm-7:00pm is being shown in QLD on 9Gem, before continuing on WIN from 7pm onwards.

Not sure how much the general public will like having to watch the first half hour of the NRL squashed to 4:3 on 9Gem tonight.

Nope. Just checked 5 minutes ago after seeing the ad advising the NRL is on tonight at 6:30 on 9Gem.

Switched over to 82 and it’s still all squashed in 4:3

Just used the “Aspect” button on the remote for the first time took a while find) and it proved a perfect fix for GEM (at least temporary). Looks fine when set to 4:3.

Just waiting for #WINHDFail to start trending for the NRL here in Qld, surely they could’ve had a 15 minute bulletin like they do during the cricket season.

Just tuned in to 9Gem here in QLD and can confirm that the NRL is being broadcast on the channel in completely squashed 4:3.

Also, tonight is the first time i’ve tuned into the local WIN News on WIN HD.
All the graphics, footage, studio footage and even the coverup logo are all very poorly upconverted SD.
Actually doesn’t look very good at all.

The up conversion is so poor that some parts look boarder line blurry.

WIN doing terribly with the NRL coverage on 9Gem in QLD.

They didn’t cut to an ad break when prompted, meaning we were left listening to the presenters talking to the crew.

Then the ad break started, before being cut back to the NRL halfway through an ad.

Now the GEM coverup on the WWOS logo isn’t working, meaning we’ve got the nine dots and logo appearing.

Also, looks like WIN may be trying to force it back to 16:9, keeps jumping back to 16:9 for about half a second at a time then settling back to 4:3

No. Not yet. Still in 4:3 format.

Most stations have inbuilt subtitles on some tvs. Results can vary in different TV sets.

So can someone explain to me what is happening with 9Gem on WIN?

As a metro resident it’s all very confusing.

Ever since WIN launched WIN HD and 9 Life on Tuesday, the normal 16:9 image of 9Gem is being squashed into a 4:3 box with black strips on the left and right sides of the screen, so everything looks long and thin and squashed, it’s bloody terrible.

Its getting really anoying while watching nrl keeps flashing but just lucky its coverup free

It’s almost unwatchable tonight with the constant flickering as if they are trying to make it 16:9 but it immediately jumps back again.

Is that WIN-designed Gem watermark used all the time now?

Edit: NRL on Gem in WA does not have the WIN WWOS cover-up.
