Nine (WIN)

I thought it was going to be a staged rollout for WIN though the ads are apparently saying March the 1st.

Website doesn’t seem to mention anything… unless i’ve missed something on there.

So assume March 1st everyone is getting it … maybe not Tassie.

Full info has been posted to the WIN Network website as well:

^^ They make a note for WA viewers about a few days delay, yet when your location is set to WA on the website you can’t access that information popup window at all.

What if I can’t receive the new channels?
You may need to visit your local Electrical Store and ask about their Mpeg 4 capable TV’s.

Or buy a set top box . Don’t need to go out and spend a lot on a tv all of a sudden.

Yeah, I’m sure that a cheap MPEG4-capable STB and a HDMI cable should do the trick if your digital TV can’t pick up the MPEG4 channels!

So when will WIN News go HD?

I mean they have one studio and 2 cameras to upgrade. And considering they do like 67 separate bulletins from the one studio and set in the Gong, it seems like money very well spent!

WIN News studios have HD cameras and their Grass Valley Ignite systems are HD ready.

Also it should be two studios in Gong, three in Maroochy and one in Hobart.

Does this mean that these channels will be available on VAST in WA? - Because all the Regional WA transmitters are VAST fed aren’t they?
I note that Racing.com is available on VAST WA, but not VAST in the eastern states.

As someone who lives in Regional QLD, I’m very surprised to see WIN HD launching here first, ahead of 7 HD.
I honestly thought it was going to be the other way around.

Yes, it will be available on VAST on the WA bouquet.

if by chance, if things get sour between nine and win, and win eventually signs up with ten, would regional areas get ten HD from day one if win signs up with ten?

Because it’s HD?

Yes.Thought the HD channel didn’t show that much “HD” content… it seems wasted on a black and white movie… though someone will watch it . Bring on WIN HD next Tuesday .

So if I’m reading that right Win will be using MPEG4 for 9Life as well whilst 9 use MPEG2 (I think).

I wonder if that has to do with WIN having to data cast channels and Nine only one?

So in theory 9life on WIN should look better then 9Metro being in mp4?

Well lets hope WIN HD’s picture quality will be much better than WIN SD, because WIN SD’s picture quality is almost youtube quality.

Yes.

I would say that’s the reason.

That depends. Does Racing.com look better than 7 Digital? It’s MPEG-4.

It comes back to bitrate more than anything.

Exactly. Just because something’s in MPEG-4 doesn’t mean it will be of superior quality. But we can assume WIN will ensure 9Life will be of a similar quality to their MPEG-2 SD channels.
