WIN now has two new LCNs. 85 and 86 are both “Coming Soon!” On those coming soon channels, there’s a slide with the following logos:

  • WIN
  • WIN HD
  • Extra
  • 9Go!
  • Gold
  • 9Gem
  • 9Life

WIN SD is now also on LCN 81 and 9Go! on 83.

After seeing THAT post of yours, TVCL, I think I should go along with TC25 to get my eyes checked out too!

Did I REALLY see a static image from WIN promising 9Life and WIN HD?

Seriously, THAT is FANTASTIC news! The only Q is when, and I couldn’t find ANYTHING about this on WIN’s website either (despite what that slide says).

you can also say with that that there is now no chance of Southern Cross TV stations aligning with Nine.

Awesome, so WIN and NBN have now confirmed 9Life and 9HD to their broadcast areas.

That makes 9Life and 9 in HD will be avail to about 95% of the Australian population.

Interesting that they have the Extra and Gold logos on that slide. That gives them one extra channel than 9 have in the metros - by my calculations 2 of the SD channels will need to be MPEG-4 to make them all fit.
Unless they’ve just left the kept both logos so as not to give away that one of them will be dropped.

No change in Victoria yet, but now we know why they have change there watermark…

Knowing the Nine Network programing feed quality from WIN, viewers will soon be able to see all their favourite shows in 360p rather than 240p! :stuck_out_tongue:

But seriously, that’s great news. With these recent announcements from WIN and NBN, one has to wonder whether changes to the reach rules are just around the corner…

Will it be MPEG 4 for Win HD ?

Should be or it is going to look really really awful!

No change here in Yeppoon regional Qld.

The “Coming soon” slide is currently 576i MPEG-4 SD at about 0.55 mbps. There is no audio stream. 85 and 86 currently both point to the same slide (VPID – for those technically minded).

This is interesting news as i thought regional viewers would have to wait until after June the 30th.

I greatly welcome the latest developments put forward by WIN. Given that WIN has to serve a large area I believe it will be staged in a rollout.

Information from WIN

The WIN Network is launching 2 exciting new channels, WINHD and 9Life.

WINHD will give you exceptionally clear, crisp pictures with vivid colours and double the detail of standard definition, adding extra life to all your favourite programs, movies and sport.

9Life offers the best in Lifestyle and Reality content sourced from around the world, including popular franchises like The Bachelor and The Real Housewives

When will WINHD and 9Life be available on my TV?
The WIN Network is currently working on the commencement date which will be announced soon.

How will I know if I am able to receive the new channels?
The Free to Air television Industry is moving to new technology called Mpeg 4 which allows us to view more channels at a higher quality.

Some broadcasters have already commenced transmissions using this new technology.

For instance, if you are currently receiving programs on channels 64 & 68, or our test slide on 85 & 86 you are ready to receive WINHD and 9Life.

A simple retune of your receiver will confirm if you are able to get the new channels.

Will my channel numbers change?
Some of your existing channel numbers will change and new channels will be added.

Stay tuned to wintv.com.au for more information on the changes.

How can I watch these new channels?
When available, to watch WINHD and 9Life you will need to retune your TV.

Some receivers will tune automatically to the new channels and some will require you to RETUNE.

Some older Televisions & Set Top Boxes may not be able to receive the new channels.

How do I retune to receive the new channels?
Check your device’s Operating Manual for guidance, however if you don’t have the Manual, following is a typical guide to retuning of digital TV’s, Set Top Boxes and PVR’s.

Firstly, on your devices remote control, locate the following buttons:
• MENU
• The four arrow keys
• OK/ENTER

Secondly, to commence retuning:
• Push MENU
• Using the arrow keys, locate & highlight SET-UP or CHANNEL SEARCH
• Select using OK/ENTER
• Using the arrow keys, locate & highlight AUTO TUNING
• Select using OK/ENTER
• The tuning process usually takes a few minutes, with a progress bar often being shown

What if I can’t receive the new channels?
You may need to visit your local Electrical Store and ask about their Mpeg 4 capable TV’s.

If you don’t upgrade to an Mpeg 4 capable TV, you will still be able to receive all your favourite programs on WIN, GEM and GO.

WINHD is simulcast with WIN so you’ll still receive the same programs in Standard Definition on WIN.

WINHD & 9Life will be ready for you when you upgrade your TV or device with the new Mpeg 4 technology.

Note
WINHD and 9Life will not be available until the official launch date which will be announced soon. You will need to retune on this date!

Help and advice
For specific retuning instructions, consult your TV manual.

WIN confirm that both WIN HD and 9Life will be MPEG 4

Wheras in the metro region 9Life isn’t MPEG4 ?

Why does WIN have to have both WINHD and Life as MPEG4 ?

So it can keep WIN Gold and have Extra

What was WIN Gold again ? Extra is datacasting?
