Nine/Stan Rugby Union Coverage

This morning, I looked at my Channel 9 Perth guide and noticed that the Bledisloe Cup Game 1 will air at 2:30pm on the primary channel. After the Suncorp Super Netball match finishes, nine Perth will go straight into Rugby Union match.

Rugby Australia yesterday agreed in principle with New Zealand Rugby to have two Bledisloe Cup matches in Auckland on August 7 and 14.

Bledisloe Cup 2021 Game 1

After an epic win in the three-test series against France, the Wallabies are on a mission to shake off their 35-year Eden Park hoodoo and bring home the Bledisloe Cup that has eluded them for 19 years.

Coverage will be presented by the top Wide World of Sports and Stan Sport commentary lineup, hosted by Roz Kelly and Nick McCardle, and featuring All Blacks superstars Sonny Bill Williams and Andrew Mehrtens. Wallaby greats Tim Horan, Drew Mitchell, Morgan Turinui and Justin Harrison will break down all the action, assisted by Allana Ferguson.

Wallabies coach Dave Rennie has named a 42-man squad for the Bledisloe series, a youthful team with an average age of 25 – captained on Saturday by Michael Hooper in his 109th test match – determined not to be daunted by Eden Park history.

The All Blacks have put the Wallabies on notice, with head coach Ian Foster saying they have learnt a lesson from their shock 16-all draw in last year’s Game 1 in Wellington.

The Wallabies have their work cut out to break their long Auckland drought, with back-to-back tests at Eden Park. Game 2 of the Bledisloe Cup series will be played on Saturday, August 14, before the final game in Perth on Saturday, August 28, that doubles as a Rugby Championship fixture.

The Bledisloe Cup marks the start of the Wallabies’ campaign for the 2021 Rugby Championship, with all Australian fixtures to be screened live on the 9Network and Stan Sport.

Interesting move by 9 not to air Rugby on the main channel nationally apart from Perth especially in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane

It’s because the match happens at the same time as the 6pm bulletin in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.

Really sucks to be without 9GEM HD in WIN-land.

It’s good to see the Bledisloe Cup being played in the main channel in Perth and WA. Most other states had to put up with the rugby match on 9Gem. To make matters worse GEM is still in Standard Definition in WIN areas.
Hopefully Game 3 of the Bledisloe Cup will be shown on the primary channel nationwide and in HD.

Channel 10 gave priority to the Wallabies last year. I hope this is ch9 wanting maximum viewers possible while Olympics are still on, and games 2 and 3 will be on the main channel

WTH?

Of the bits I saw tonight the half time show was in the main WWOS set and the post game show was in the small old local news/ACA set.

It’s because the WWOS set is being used for Nine’s coverage of the NRL clash between Melbourne and Manly.

Sounds like Stan utilised some Sky Sport presenters/local talent in Auckland?

Asking because I didn’t see much of the coverage - did they contribute to Nine’s/Stan’s coverage or did Nine merely aired interviews they did for Sky’s coverage?

Which 10 and Fox did last year.

Bledisloe Cup 2021 Game 2

The Bledisloe Cup continues this Saturday from 4.30pm AEST when the Wallabies meet the All Blacks in a do-or-die test at Eden Park in Auckland, screening live on Channel Nine, 9Gem, 9Now, and with ad-free, on-demand coverage on Stan Sport.

After a second-half surge and a narrow 33-25 loss in Game One last weekend, Australia are finally building the momentum needed to break their Eden Park curse in Game Two and keep their Bledisloe Cup dreams alive.

Coverage will be presented by the Wide World of Sports and Stan Sport commentary lineup, hosted by Roz Kelly and Nick McCardle, and featuring All Blacks superstars Sonny Bill Williams and Andrew Mehrtens. Wallaby greats Tim Horan, Drew Mitchell, Morgan Turinui and Justin Harrison will break down all the action, assisted by Allana Ferguson.

Captain Michael Hooper and coach Dave Rennie have been heartened by the Wallabies’ late surge that kept the All Blacks on their toes in Game One after being down by 25 points at one stage. But the All Blacks want the series wrapped up two-nil and the Bledisloe Cup staying in Auckland, home to the trophy for the last 19 years.

If the Wallabies win on Saturday, not only will they break their winless 35-year Eden Park curse – it keeps the Bledisloe Cup series alive for the Game Three decider in Perth on Saturday, August 28, that doubles as a Rugby Championship fixture.

The Bledisloe Cup marks the start of the Wallabies’ campaign for the 2021 Rugby Championship, with all Australian fixtures to be screened live on the Nine Network and Stan Sport.
