Super Rugby competition launch this morning. Understand more details of Stan’s coverage forthcoming.

You can discuss both Stan and Nine broadcasts/coverage here, given it will be the same.

Every match of the 2021 Super Rugby competition will be available on Stan Sport , the new home of rugby, and a weekly Super Rugby AU game every Saturday on Nine. Kicking off from February 19th, all games will be presented by a superstar team of hosts and experts and produced by the unrivalled experience of the award-winning Wide World of Sports team.

Stan’s add-on sport package will be the only place to watch every match of the Super Rugby AU , Super Rugby Aotearoa and Trans-Tasman tournament, along with every match of the Rugby Championship , Bledisloe Cup , Shute Shield, Hospital Cup, Currie Cup and New Zealand’s National Provincial Championship , plus Super W, Wallabies and Wallaroos test matches, SANZAAR Union home tests and more for only $10 a month. Consumers can pre-activate the sport package now to get a 30-day free trial for a limited time by visiting:

Spearheading the line-up of talent are leading rugby hosts Roz Kelly and Nick McArdle , both of whom have interviewed the who’s who of the sport, and have experience hosting some of the biggest blockbuster events in the world over their distinguished media careers.

Joining them will be a team of former Wallaby superstars including Tim Horan , Morgan Turinui , Drew Mitchell and Justin Harrison , former All-Black legend Andrew Mehrtens, and former dual-code international star Allana Ferguson to analyse and explain every aspect of the match.

Experienced commentators Sean Maloney and Andrew Swain will be there to call every cunning play, crunching tackle and heart-stopping moment of all the biggest games throughout the year.

Nine’s Head of Rugby Murray Shaw said: “I’m extremely proud of the incredibly talented and qualified line-up of talent we have brought together to deliver what will be the most comprehensive rugby coverage seen to date in Australia. We are bringing a fantastic product to rugby fans new and old as we kick off a new era of the game.”

Nine’s Wide World of Sports will produce every game appearing on Nine and Stan Sport, with cutting-edge technology and studios at the core of the all-new presentation that will offer the best possible experience for sports fans.

For the first time in the professional era, Super Rugby will be available to a free-to-air audience on Nine, with a game from the elite competition broadcast each Saturday live on 9Gem. Wallabies test matches played in Australia and New Zealand will also broadcast live on Nine.

Rugby Australia CEO Andy Marinos said: “Super Rugby AU is set to reach new heights in 2021 on its new home on Stan and Nine, with the broad reach of free-to-air as well as ad-free, extensive coverage on Stan Sport.

“We’re extremely excited for the new season of Super Rugby AU, with Australian Rugby superstars set to be streamed into more living rooms than ever before.”

Guessing SBW turned them down in the end?

New major role for Roz Kelly, who returned to Nine only a couple of weeks ago.

Presume that is why she returned

FTA coverage:

Reds 6
Waratahs 5
Brumbies 4
Rebels 3
Force 2

Each team plays a total of 8 matches.

It says this fairly prominently on your link:

Your free trial of the Sport add-on will start when the season kicks off February 19

Even though Stan Sport’s rugby union coverage is geared towards rugby heartlands of NSW and Queensland, fans of Western Force will feel hard done by with only two matches on FTA.

All on 9Gem.

Nine dumps Saturday NRL for nothing then

Nine only has NRL on Saturdays for the last few weeks of the season anyway. So no loss there! Surprised that the Union is on Gem also

Agree - I would have thought that (at least) the season opener and finals matches would have aired on the main channel in NSW & QLD.

Super Rugby is so niche they could probably get away with putting it on Extra.

What, and piss off the Ab Circle Pro fans? Never.

9Gem is in HD nowadays anyway so no difference in quality to the main channel.

Looks like Nine putting a huge effort into this.

Many sports should look to do this sort of stuff and ditch fox.

If they had Saturday NRL and Union, both couldn’t air on Gem. And GO! rates highly for family movies so they wouldn’t want to give that up.

Seriously this is an argument that 10yrs ago was getting old.

If you can’t figure out how to change channels or understand that it’s on a Nine based channel than I don’t think watching TV is for you.

It’s on 9GEM, like the supercars will be on 7mate etc.

The positive, it’s on FTV.

Its not about figuring out how to change the channel, its about getting people to watch the game.

Putting the rugby on after the Saturday evening news means more people will watch it. Rugby fans will change to Gem, casual viewers won’t.
