Ken was the master of all sports in the late 80/early 90’s with nine; took them a while to find the new Ken, but James has stepped up.

And that’s why I dislike the major sports being concentrated to Seven, Nine and Foxtel, leaving 10 and SBS for the scraps so to speak. I also want to see the ABC televise live sport again.

Sofie Formica reminding listeners on her 4BC show this afternoon that they can hear the race on 4BC but if they want to watch it that it’ll be on Channel 9 this year instead of Channel 7.
This can’t be a good look for 10 when people think it’s on 7 but it’s actually on 9 however, it’s been on 10 for 5 years. Why are they thinking it’s on 7?

That’s not true at all. James presents the NRL which is national and also the Australian Open, also national and just came off a presenting stint doing the Olympic, also national.
He also hosts 100% Footy which goes out nationally and also hosted Sports Sunday, again nationally, for many years.

Yep, a Sydney presenter with national exposure. Unlike Eddie, he’s not that well known in Melbourne.

Is social media correct? Did they really do a Welcome to Country just before the main race when the event had been on all day?
They as in Victoria Racing Club yes plus entertainment and national anthem. It’s not a new thing

What was the point? Wouldn’t it make more sense to do it at the beginning of the day? Why bother at the end?
I think Melburnians, certainly those that regularly watch TV including bvod, let alone major sports telecasts, would be aware of James Bracey by now, definitely the person if not by name (given the 2025 Aussie Open will be his 7th in a row as a host).

It’s unusual to do it 6 hours after people have already stepped foot on the land. Makes no sense doing it when they’re about to leave.

Same argument could be applied to AFL, etc - why do it just before the main event (the match) when people have already been there for up to an hour, possibly earlier before the match starts

That’s not the same thing. The event/ match hasn’t started yet. There’s people still entering the stadium right up until the siren.
There’d been racing for 5/6 hours today before they did it.
