The Masters

The Masters is back on Nine’s Wide World of Sports, with the best golfers in the world descending on Augusta National from April 11 to 15, live on 9Gem and 9Now.

Tiger Woods returns to Augusta chasing his fifth green jacket. The 14-time major champion won the first major of his career at Augusta in 1997 and has had 13 top-10 finishes at the Masters in 19 appearances as a professional.

Other tournament favourites include Rory McIlroy, Dustin Johnson and Justin Rose. Australian viewers will get to watch local heroes Cameron Smith, Jason Day, Adam Scott and Marc Leishman vying for the prestigious green jacket.

The host broadcast will be headed by Jim Nantz, Scott Van Pelt, Nick Faldo, Curtis Strange, Ian Baker-Finch, Frank Nobilo, Verne Lundquist, Peter Kostis, Bill Macatee, Dottie Pepper, Tom Rinaldi and Amanda Ballionis.

Nine’s Director of Sport, Tom Malone, says golf fans will be in the box seat to watch one of the best Masters fields in history.

“Viewers will be spoilt for choice with five different channels to choose between on 9Gem and 9Now,” he said.

Coverage will commence on Thursday, April 11, with the traditional Par 3 Competition, with wives and girlfriends, children and grandchildren all happily caddying in a family affair for the US Masters players.

Day 1 of competition commences on April 12 from 5.00am AEST through to 9.00am nationwide on 9Gem. There will also be four digital streams available on 9Now including Amen Corner, Holes 15 and 16, The Leaders, and Featured Groups.

Sports reporter Neil Breen will provide round-the-clock coverage from Augusta National on Nine News, Today, Sports Sunday and the Wide World of Sports digital and mobile platforms.

Last year Patrick Reed surprised all when he captured the Masters crown. Who will it be in 2019?

Get ready: The Masters, is coming, Live and Free, on Nine’s Wide World of Sports.

Disgraceful that it is not in HD but on Gem.

To protect the ratings of Today perhaps?

At least the online streams of 9Gem are in 720p.

Of course main channel/HD coverage would be better, but Nine cancelling Today for overseas sports coverage just won’t happen in the multichannel era.

I was unaware. At least that’s a reasonable option. The Masters really needs to be shown in HD to get the full impact of Augusta.

A few parts of Australia (e.g. Regional WA, Regional SA, remote Australia) can see the golf on 9Gem in HD in 1080i.
But some people can watch the Masters live on Fox Sports and Kayo in HD.

A sign of things to come when The Ashes starts in July. live and exclusive, most likely on Gem

At a lousy 25fps and bitrate. Yes, still better than the shit served up by 7plus/10play/iView/SBS but others like Kayo are streaming near flawlessly at 1080p50

The difference being that Kayo is User pays whereas the others are free.

Meh, I’ll still be watching on GEM as Foxtel uses the world feed which has the same monotone guy who likes to cut off the commentary from CBS and ramble on. They tend to cut interviews as well which is annoying.

Netball World Cup 2019

EXCLUSIVE TO NINE

Friday 12 July - Sunday 21 July

Nine’s Wide World of Sports has secured the exclusive rights to broadcast the Vitality Netball World Cup 2019 – netball’s premier international tournament – live from England between Friday, July 12, and Sunday, July 21.

In the 15th Netball World Cup, at the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool, 60 matches will be played over 10 days, culminating in the Grand Final on Sunday, July 21.

The best 16 teams in the world will take part, headed up by Australia, the reigning World Cup champions, Commonwealth Games gold medallists and host nation England, New Zealand, Jamaica, South Africa and Malawi.

The other 10 teams, who made the World Cup through regional qualifier events last year, are Northern Ireland, Scotland, Fiji, Samoa, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, Sri Lanka and Singapore.

Nine’s Director of Sport, Tom Malone, said: “We are hugely excited to be the exclusive rights holder for the 2019 Netball World Cup. It’s going to be a massive build-up through the Suncorp Super Netball series, and you can bet Lisa Alexander and the Diamonds will be out to exact revenge after going down in last year’s Commonwealth Games gold medal match against England.”

Former Australian captain and Nine commentator, Liz Ellis, said: “I’m rapt that the Netball World Cup will be broadcast in Australia on Nine. The World Cup is the pinnacle international event for any netballer, and this year it is a wide open field, with a number of teams fancying their chances.

“For netball fans it is a massive win to have every Australian match broadcast live and exclusive on free-to-air television.”

Nine’s Wide World of Sports will broadcast every Australian Diamonds game, plus all other games will be on 9Now, commencing at 8.00pm on Friday, July 12.

The Netball World Cup, a quadrennial championship coordinated by the International Netball Federation, has been played in seven countries since 1963. The first championship was hosted by England. Over this period Australia has won the cup 11 times (including one draw), New Zealand four times (one draw) and Trinidad and Tobago once (also joint winners).

Nine and 9Now will broadcast every game live on Nine, 9Gem and 9Now.
