If there was still any doubt whether SCA were indeed inserting the “HD” part of the watermark, you’ve got the answer.
Here’s another clear giveaway that SCA are inserting the “HD” as a catchup on 9Now for ‘The Voice’ pop-up from Nine appears up from behind it.
There is no watermark during the infomercials they are currently showing instead of the movie Frantic.
Yeah I have noticed they leave it off a few late nights this week. They left the HD logo on in the ad break last night during the footy.

That’s correct. They take an HD feed from Nine without the HD on it. They downconvert that for SD, and add the HD bug for the HD service. Saves wasting bandwidth on SD and HD contribution.
That’s why the SD channel looks good.

Today we’ve had issues during the QLD Morning News and now again during the QLD Afternoon News.
The break airing just now had a promo for tonight’s 9 News cut off at “9 News ton”, instead of “9 News tonight at 6”.

I watched 9 QLD Afternoon News and 9 News this afternoon and tonight, every ad break was cut out about 1 second too early, with the last 1 second of the Brisbane advert shown at the end.
The worst was towards the end of 9 News.
We randomly swapped from mid-way through a local ad to mid-way through a Brisbane advert, then cut before it end to a 9 Hot Seat promo, then cut back halfway through a Brisbane Sponsor Board.

The ACA promo airing on SC9 today has “Australia’s No. 1” written on it now instead of “Brisbane’s No. 1”
I think I know what’s going on here now. WIN must still have control over that prized first column in the guide (as you said, they used it themselves prior to TDT launching) and has stopped the Nine logo from being used, creating this logo as a replacement. The smaller HD lettering is plucked from WIN’s previous logo, same size and everything. So even after WIN and Nine sever ties, they still continue to boycott the Nine brand anywhere they can. I will bet this logo is not seen anywhere except where WIN has editorial control.

On another note, a 9Go! in program promo appeared this afternoon on the main channel with the HD watermark still visible (for obvious reasons).
