Nine (Southern Cross)

I’d rather 9life from 1 July to be honest!

I wonder how the “no rescan needed” idea is going

If it wasn’t for Origin, I’d agree.

I suppose it is possible that as an interim measure 50 will be a MPEG 2 channel the same as ONE and that GEM and GO will occupy Eleven and TVSN’s part of the spectrum.

Which always translates to “lets piss viewers off”, unbeknownst to WIN.

I think it’s more likely that they have the new encoders ready, but not the new playout equipment. Nine SD and Nine HD would run off the same playout “stream”, but would just be encoded differently.

Longer version of the Nine on 5 promo

Great promo. Let’s hope Nine continues to do promotional material for SCA throughout their affiliation agreement. What a turn around - from the dodgiest regional network to the most polished of the lot!

I think it’ll be very very rare that SCA will need to do anything. If they take the same schedule, everything can be produced by nine.

That’s possible. But it seems that if that is the case SC should put some sort of caveat in the FAQ section that not all TV’s will be able to receive 9HD. Seems like a big omission of such an important point; rather than the assertion “Yes you will get 9HD from 1 July.” that is currently there. They should learn from the experiences of the MPEG 4 launches in the capital cities.

Until their full local news services are established, I suspect that 99% of the promos and other On-Air Presentation elements airing on SCA Nine will come from the main network themselves.

There’s basically never been any mention that only some viewers will be able to access the MPEG-4 HD services, so why would that change now? SCA’s press release specifically says that their new equipment is ready, and once 9Life launches they can only fit all the channels in if 9HD is MPEG-4, so why would they go to the effort to have it in MPEG-2 now?

That dead rubber tho

If Southern Cross have the capability to get 9HD up and running on July 1st hopefully this means that Ten HD will arrive soon for SC10 areas.

Including Ten Darwin and ten central?

Good question. Does this also mean 9HD for SA and Broken Hill?

I would assume no for the moment, as the start of SCA’s press release about 9HD says:

True. But we also know multiple deals and changes are happening outside of those regions which aren’t being released to the press.

Southern Cross working like the well oiled machine we know it is tonight.

Promos seen for Spelling Bee (5 times) and The Bachelor.

I will excuse them for the multiple Offspring promos as they will at least be showing one episode of the new series.

These are potentially coming in the feed from Ten, so difficult to remove.
