Nine (Southern Cross)

Has anyone managed to record SCA’s Nine on 5 radio ad?

I travelled from Townsville to Mackay yesterday.
It was being flogged on the Townsville stations, at least once every 15 minutes.
But once I got into the Mackay region and switched over to Mackay radio I didn’t hear it once, which I thought was odd.

I hope GEM doesn’t get squashed into 4:3 or one of Nine’s channels get squashed into 4:3 like last time there was a change.

That was WIN who had the 4:3 problem, meaning in the unlikely event it would happen again, it would happen to one of the TEN multichannels

No one will notice on One and Eleven because no one watches those channels anyway.

Ha ha, that’s a good one!, true especially when it comes to Channel One.

Ten seems to have a really low bitrate or something I cannot quite figure it out . This is in Central Qld. When I have been home in the mornings I see that Studio 10 looks terrible in SD . Looks like a soft sort of Youtube version. One’s “HD” looks like SD sometimes , have never seen something on One and thought "Wow that looks like crystal clear stunning HD " . Eleven looks like slightly better SD than Ten sometimes.

I don’t know why Australia cannot get SD to a decent level , we can’t even get HD right. (Except for WIN HD ) which seems to look really good here most of the time.)

[/quote]Southern Cross’s current setup has very poor compression, it’s technically not a low bit rate, but the poor compression gives a similar visual effect. Part of the problem is that most of Southern Cross’s equipment is still their original digital TV gear which is now 10-15 years old and probably the oldest setup of all the broadcasters.

The good news is that the Channel 10 programs will look much better once they switch to WIN, and the Southern Cross is currently working on upgrading their entire playout setup so by mid-August their channels will look much better.

I’ll believe that when I see it. Have you even seen WIN’s SD services? For a “state of the art” facility, they’re outputting channels that look worse than Southern Cross’s.

WIN SD is woeful that’s for sure.

Since Ten HD came around in metro areas, ONE “HD” in regional areas, which is still suppose to be an HD channel has shown nothing but unconverted SD programming. Even the Monday night F1 race replay somehow becomes SD.

Great news but am I the only one ( a WIN viewer) that has the channel 9HD in SD today?

I’ve heard the same report from a viewer in the Illawarra (OK, zampakid on Twitter!).

Read into it what you will, but I wouldn’t be terribly surprised if it’s another “Lets p*** Nine off” tactic in the lead-up to the affiliation switch! :stuck_out_tongue:

Same here in Central West QLD too. Upscaled.

Yeah WIN HD looks ordinary from the Orange region.

Wow! Absolutely excellent that SCA will have 9HD ready from July 1. I really wasn’t expecting that at all!

On another note, i’m currently visiting the Mackay region on the QLD Central Coast where WIN don’t have a Local News, with ACA instead airing on WIN at 7pm.

I’ve noticed that the NineOn5 ad that airs here is exactly the same as the others posted, except there is no mention of ACA at all, the ad shows the Footy Show hosts and then cuts to the “visit nineon5.com.au” segment.

Interesting to note that SCA still don’t expect to have 9Life ready in time.
I wonder why that would be?

Will I still get 9HD?
Yes you will get 9HD from 1 July.

Will I still get 9Gem, 9Go! and 9Life?
9Gem will be on channel 52 from July 1.

9GO! will be on channel 53 from July 1.

Southern Cross Austereo has ordered and awaiting delivery of the equipment to be able to broadcast 9Life. SCA is expecting that it will be broadcasting 9Life by mid-August.
