Nine (Southern Cross)

Will I still get 9Gem, 9Go! and 9Life?

9Gem will be on channel 52 from July 1.
9GO! will be on channel 53 from July 1.
Southern Cross Austereo has ordered and awaiting delivery of the equipment to be able to broadcast 9Life. SCA is expecting that it will be broadcasting 9Life by mid-August.

It’s so transparent and clear. “We have ordered the HD equipment from Europe and we should have 9Hd on the air by August”

Verses Prime7

“Due to the Techincal nature or HD and the complexities of regional broadcasting prime7 has no announcements on HD”

The former is the way companies should communicate in 2016. Not the later

that’s not too bad thought it would been a lot longer wait for 9hd & 9life

That’s pretty good that they will have the channe up and running so quickly. So regional Qld for example will have 9HD and 10 HD (WIN HD). No 7HD yet.

Damn you Nine for making such a good tv channel lol. You’ve glued my parents to the set most nights. Looks like hooking up the laptop to the tv will only be for a short time.

Equipment from Europe?

The “equipment from Europe” is probably a reference to new/upgraded playout facilities for additional channels, upgraded transmitters, etc.

“equipment from Europe” - sounds like a euphemism for “it’s in the mail” :grinning:

“equipment from Europe” sounds more upmarket than “equipment from Asia” anyhow.

Hopefully it’s the Mercedes of HD equipment they are getting and thus results in a very good PQ

It’s not like we got to see much of the Southern Cross Logo on SC Ten anyway.

Page 3 - ummmmm… someone should tell SCA that Nine own the 9 channels in NNSW, not WIN lol.

I saw the Nine on 5 promo tonight while watching Masterchef. Weird seeing the 9 logo on screen then a ad for a Ten program.

I just did in the contact section. We should all message them.

Still unsure why they didn’t opt to use the 9 LCN… Especially if there is a retune involved anyway. I’m sure those who didn’t retune would have found 5 to be 9 until they retuned.

Channel Nine being broadcast on LCN 5 makes absolutely zero sense.

They are called logical channel numbers for a reason - what’s the point of having them if you end up making viewers perform mental gymnastics anyway?

Most digital TV tuners are intelligent enough to give the broadcast with the strongest signal strength the requested LCN - in an example of a home in North Wollongong, Channel 9/SC Wollongong would be given the 9 LCN, with Channel 9 Sydney being given a random LCN like 359 or something.

There is no reason for this ridiculous “Nine on Five” crap.

Are they broadcasting Gem in HD (MPEG2) for a few weeks then? Wouldn’t it make sense just to show Gem and 9Life in SD (MPEG2) instead until they are ready for 9HD - should be more than enough space to do that.

There’s been no official confirmation but I doubt that they would.
They’ve set 9Gem and 9Go!, to use their proper LCNs from July 1 ready for when 9HD and 9Life are added.

So I’d say that the two multichannels available from July 1 are most likely to be broadcast in the format they intend for them to be broadcast in for the years to come. So they’ll most likely just broadcast them in SD MPEG-2 from Day 1 in my opinion.

On another note, surely SCA will have thought to have a static placeholder on LCN 50/54 from Day 1.
If they don’t, those that have to retune on July 1 will have to retune again a few weeks later when 9HD and 9Life launch.

@mubd Channel Ten has been on Channel 5 for 8 years now

I wonder if it includes the GTS/BKN license area as well?

Also from that URL:

Will they be moving Eleven and One, or is that just a bad copy-paste attempt?

Good pick up. I’d say a bad copy/paste given that Nine has 3 multi channels but TEN only has 2.
