Nine News Presenters and Reporters

Given the trajectory of most ex-Nine Adelaide personalities I wouldn’t be surprised if Seven picked her up even though they already have plenty of presenters on their books.

I wonder if Adelaide will send Alice back to reporting and keep Will solo on weekends?

The Advertiser article The journalists most likely to replace Kate Collins on 9 News Adelaide has named eight potential candidates to replace Kate Collins. They are:

Alice Monfries
Sarah Cumming
Jessica Braithwaite
Chelsea Carey
Jessica Adamson
Rebecca Morse
Kate Freebairn
Tiffany Warne

Highly unlikely she will be replaced as they are cost cutting, wouldn’t surprise me if Gary Youngberry ends up doing weather for all markets, seeing as Newcastle, Sydney, Melbourne have lost their weather presenters.

When did Gavin Norris leave?

Pretty sure he’s doing the news nowadays as well as the weather.

Not anymore it seems. He’s gone too

Weather has become one of those things where they will just cycle in and out reporters which will also build in studio experience.

File some reports during the day, head to the studio for the weather then go home. Normal 9 hour ish day. I remember the days when some paid multi hundred thousand dollar salaries for weather presenters who came and went in a short shift.

With revenue likely to slide further over time, I’d say the likes of local afternoon bulletins are done. Fine tuning the payroll will be an always on approach moving forward.

I am shocked they’ve even lasted the past decade. Cheaper just to run reruns or reruns like The Block.

I think it just became a pissing contest with those afternoon bulletins.

Larger population nations could probably take these types of bulletins but not here.

They need to build a business based on Key 6pm, Breakfast, and perhaps a morning bulletin. I think the networks have done too much, the cost base has just blown out.

I think what saves the afternoon bulletins is much of the content is already getting used in the 6pm news. Staff are already there.

Probably becomes a question of how much cost (if any) can be pulled out by going national with afternoons or removing completely.

It will be harder to get news ready for Afternoons if the assets are being sweated out in the field. You can only do so much in a given time with xx people, gets harder when people are cut and the same result is expected.

Chris also would have been an excellent Weekend Today Host

As a starting point, all 6pm readers should also be presenting their local 4pm bulletin. The money they are on cannot be justified for reading an autocue for 1 hour.

I agree, never understood why the main anchors aren’t used at 4PM too

100%!

Bit nonsense really, just random and obvious names. Surprised they didn’t float the idea of Jane Doyle being lured out of retirement just to be really silly. You would think they will revert back to single weekend anchor if they’re staying single on weekdays.

One advantage of the existing set up is that it gives other reporters/aspiring presenters the opportunity to gain presenting experience to allow them to fill in at 6pm etc.

they can still do that, on weekends/holidays etc when regular presenters are away.

So far there has been no word on Perth being impacted. Is this because they’ve performed well reducing the gap with 7 and already have the solo presenter format? Or just yet to be announced?

Nine Perth essentially slashed their presenter cost years ago when Emmy and Tim got the chop. Rumour at the time was they were keen to keep Tim but negotiations fell apart.
