Adelaide doesn’t have many senior reporters. A lot of young new reporters. Rory McClaren would be Adelaide’s most senior reporter.
Yes ever since Alice Monfries and Ben Avery left there’s a lot of up-coming juniors reporting in Adelaide.
They don’t have that many reporters that could do a full bulletin. There’s only Brenton, Kate, Will and Eddy these days.
they’re all questionable too.
Brenton, Kate and Will are good but Edward’s not that great. Jessica Braithwaite is okay, they should give Chelsea Carey a go reading the news.
Yeah Eddy seems to be quite robotic and he also likes using hand gestures a lot when he reads the news. Kate is the only excellent presenter out of the bunch. Will and Brenton are good but not fantastic.
They should give Jessica Braithwaite and Chelsea Carey a go at news reading. Tom Rehn wouldn’t be a bad choice either.
We say it Australian, this isn’t England. This is coming from a dual citizen, born there.
Tom has done a few afternoon news bulletins this year.
Obviously foolish to think there’s 1 Australian language/dialect, just like would be foolish to suggest the same of England. But that’s a discussion for another thread.
More the point, that yes 9 sees Adelaide as a training ground for the eastern states so reporters are never going to build up a long term reputation here. Whereas at 7, it’s people who have worked here for decades and have built up creditability, or some who’ve come back from interstate.
Annette Sharp in The Sunday Telegraph is claiming that Georgie Gardner was in a bad mood this past week as her contract expires in two months and she is facing a massive pay cut under a new contract. Her salary before Today was apparently around $450,000 which increased to an alleged $750,000. It is suspected that she will lose the increase she received for fronting Today, it appears.

Such a bitter old ‘journalist’.
I’m hoping Darren Wick will call her out like he did with the likes of Amy Harris.
Though having said that, if there was any truth to that article, then it’s not really anything surprising considering Georgie’s only doing 2 days of news + filling in and some special reports which would be hard to justify a $750,000 annual salary.
If she was earning $750k a year to work five days a week then logically she should be paid $300k a year to work two days a week (being $150k per day).
Even better, $750k a year presenting 17.5hrs of television per week on Today means her hourly rate was about $825 (ignoring holidays for the sake of simplicity). Multiply that by her new roster presenting 2hrs a week and you get a far more reasonable $85,800 per year salary.
$450k doesn’t sound so bad now does it, Georgie?
Agreed. Surely there’s got to be a long and very interesting story as to why Annette Sharp has a particular vendetta against the Nine Network and several of their personalities?
If it’s true (of course given the journalist/source in question, I am taking it with a grain of salt) and Georgie Gardner actually had a sulk about facing a massive pay cut under a new contract, then Nine would probably be wise to let her go from the network and re-instate Deborah Knight into the position of 2nd in-line presenter for Nine News Sydney.
But if that “article” is complete and utter rubbish like I suspect it is, hopefully Annette Sharp will soon hear from Darren Wick and Nine’s legal team.
a $750,000 annual salary
For various reasons (some of which, of course are quite understandable) us mere mortals will probably never know for sure, but I do wonder if Peter Overton’s would be around that figure or a bit higher.
You’d think being the main presenter of Sydney’s highest rating TV news service received in six regional markets (in SCA Nine’s four Southern NSW/ACT submarkets + WIN Nine Griffith, Imparja South), a national late bulletin on Sunday nights + occasional contributions to 60 Minutes and national news coverage (elections, other rolling coverage) would be worth at least $500k a year, but I’m not sure whether Pete would be worth $1 Million a year like Hendo & Roscoe reportedly were in years gone by for Nine & Seven respectively.
logically she should be paid $300k a year to work two days a week (being $150k per day).
It’s a salary, so it’s not an hourly/daily rate. It accounts for weeks like the one just gone where she worked 7 days consecutively, prominence of the position, market value so 7 doesn’t poach her and working more than just the two hours that you see on air BTW.
Sunday: Sydney presenters Pete and Amber are back
Carrie-Anne Greenbank now reporting from London.
Carrie-Anne Greenbank now reporting from London.
Has she replaced Sophie Walsh?
Correct
Looks like Amber (far left) for some reason was trying to sneak past Pete just before the weather cross, Pete looked he knew she wasn’t where she was supposed to be judging by the grin on his face.
Haha hilarious! Do you have a video?
No unfortunately, but she only appeared in a couple of frames, that one above was the most we saw of her then before the full screen graphic swept through.
