How is he the most notable? Considering he’s not been there in many many years.
They can’t hope to challenge 7 if they’re always rotating through these very green reporters.
You’ll have Peter Calidcott or Deanna Williams on 7, vs someone who looks 20 and speaks with an eastern-state accent on 9.
Even their political editor has gone from Tom Richardson to Rory McLaren to Harvey Briggs (which was pushing it) now to Oliver Haige.
Seven has had turn over too… Mark Mooney, Tim Yeatman, Tim Hatfield all gone and replaced with newbies, but they mix in with the experience they have. I honestly don’t know what 9 can do in Adelaide.
In fairness to Nine, their ‘new’ team isn’t too bad but agree that they lack the familiarity of Seven, who can actually claim to be the most experienced team with a straight face, since the likes of Rosanna have been on screen for much longer than both Brenton and Kate.
Then they’ve also got the likes of Hannah Foord and Kimberley Pratt who’s been reporting for ages across 10 and now Seven.
It’s a shame that Nine have such a high turnover, as their news service is considerably better than Seven’s in Adelaide at least, however Seven will continue to win ratings as they’ve got the familiarity with the state which half of Nine’s current crop lack.
Even someone like Jasmin Teurlings from Seven who is an SA local and still relatively new to the job somehow has more experience than about 40% of NWS’s newsroom which consists of imported Journo’s. The current team on Nine isn’t bad in any way but they just need to keep people around long enough, it’s staggering that the turnover is as high as it is.
Nine had a short piece tonight remembering the life and career of Alan Wilkie who died aged 94. He delivered the weather on Nine for 25 years after starting as the first weatherman on TV on ABC.
