I’m sure a 30 year veteran would care what a random with a picture of a kid on a discussion board, thinks he does “a bit better at now.”
Go easy, I think Jack is the kid, sure he needs to calm his passion a bit and learn when enough is enough on a particular hobby horse. He’s not the first around here and won’t be the last.
Reading that back - I was ruder than I meant to be. Sorry about that! @Jack_BAULCH
What I was trying to get across was that Gav (a personal friend) has 30 years experience as a broadcaster and he wouldn’t care at all what someone on a discussion board thinks, especially when they say “a bit better”.
You have to understand he has 60-90 seconds to get a message across. This isn’t easy when you have 30 or more centres with temperatures on screen. Brevity can be your friend but it can also be an enemy.
You can dislike what Nine Local does, but in around 60 days time there are going to be a lot of towns that lose a second 30 minute news option for one 30 minute option and two outlets running noodle updates only. And a lot of good journalists will be lost to the industry.
And that is only going to be a BAD thing.
Nine News Local has gone back to statewide but NSW and VIC are being pre-recorded via the QLD control room - alongside Queensland being live.
Things aren’t entirely back to normal yet.
Natassia Soper has uploaded updated Showreels - presuming she will leave Nine once Local News ends.
According to The Australian, Nine has been criticised for “exceptionally poor” communication after sacking dozens of reporters and camera operators across regional Australia and leaving many in limbo about their departures.
One insider said many staff were extremely upset and had been left in limbo, not knowing whether they still had a job with Nine, would be given a redundancy, or would be offered help to find work elsewhere.
… a Murdoch newspaper publishing criticism of Nine? … I don’t believe it
I wonder if the previous one hour bulletins were suspended and then axed, because of the news reader and sports reader not being able to social distance?
Maybe, but I still reckon Nine would’ve thought about cutting back on regional bulletins to focus on other areas of their N&CA department even before the pandemic.
Think about it: What other explanation is there for them reducing those bulletins yet launching not inexpensive programs like ACA Saturday, Nine’s Late News and Under Investigation?!
It had literally nothing to do with that.
The reason (according to 9) was to allow the regional teams to supplement the metro newsrooms.
From what I understand, the workforces of each newsroom were split into teams, which never overlapped. Thus, if Team A had to isolate, Team B was still able to function independently without having to isolate.
Essentially, to provide a backup team if someone tested positive.
It also may explain why they didn’t keep sport presenters such as Nathan Currie, when the statewide bulletins started in August last year.
Western Victoria only has Ezra Holt as a reporter now. No one else will want to replace Eloise Wilkinson seeing as these statewide bulletins will be gone in less than two months.
That’s a shame. There would be people willing in fill in for a few weeks to gain more experience in TV Journalism. Nine doesn’t need to care now.
Samantha Heathwood anchored the Regional Victoria bulletin tonight
What’s with the use of the word ‘yarn’? Is that a technical term in journalism? (Serious question).
Seems like a dud role if it is wrapping up at the end of next month.
