Hearing a story this week, not sure on its legitimacy, but SKY after being dropped by WIN, may look to go across to SCA and provide some sort of news avenue for the void left by NINE?
nine news local still continuing with the national edition today. i would expect this to be the case for the reminder of the week
Would they really put the time and money into bringing back the separate state editions for only two months? In Nineâs eyes the current product is probably adequate enough, they wonât be continuing their partnership with SCA beyond June 30 anyway, and thereâs been talk on here of many NNL staff already having left or been redeployed which would make a return to state editions difficult or impossible.
If i were SCA that would be completely unacceptable. They are paying for state based bulletins thatâs what they should receive. Sure itâs unique circumstances yes but they arenât getting what they paid for. Same can be said for the lack of bulletins at the beginning of the Coronavirus Pandemic. Ultimately itâs not SCAâs problem that Nine canât produce the bulletins due to their bad IT management practices.
But utimately it is SCAâs problem if they are not meeting their local content quota, due to Nine not supplying the state local news.
Yes, and so Nine should get less revenue from SCA during these periods.
They are though.
The 50% revenue isnât as much as what it was before COVID. When they are receiving a 50% cut it doesnât mean itâs the same amount of money per month.
This service is an investment by Nine to boost the revenue on the SCAâs stations so they get more from the 50% cut. SCA doesnât pay additional money for the service.
NNL are losing staff all over the place, staff are actually talented and are wanted by other employers and are taking up jobs everywhere else. So i cant see how they could fulfil 30 mins of a state based news.
Well Nine donât have a choice but to provide it at least at a state level.
They do if they can get away with it.
True but SCA have a legislative requirement to provide it so if Nine cannot do it they can do it themselves which as far as I am aware is not a option.
Might be an interesting analysis to see how much local content is currently airing (on a per market basis) and if it reaches the minimum local content requirements (points).
Doesnât mean it has to be in a state-based format.
Says who? Theyâre still broadcasting the stories that wouldâve been in the state editions. If 2-minute noodle updates can fulfill requirements then this national bulletin should easily meet the local quotas.
I donât like it either, but this is the reality for the next two months.
They might be able to squeeze in a TOSS or two at Hobart and use those and the main studio to film noodle updates like they used to in Canberra.
Source? Or your opinion?
Iâm sure the National bulletin meets that requirement but if Nine were to stop doing it then SCA would need to make alternative arrangements.
