Yeah it’s sad - he is such a nice guy - even doing a report for 6 News! Will be missed from the team.
Natassia Apolloni used to be the presenter of a bunch of WIN News QLD bulletins when they were presented from the Sunshine Coast studios. She presented the bulletin with Paul Murphy on sport.
I don’t remember how long she was the presenter for, but I feel like it was quite a while. There are videos on YouTube of her presenting in 2014, 2015, and 2016.
She eventually moved back to the Illawarra and Lincoln Humphries took over (if my memory serves me correctly).
Here’s an old promo from 2014 from WIN News:
I believe it was Paul Taylor who took over, then he left for Nine and that’s when Humphries took over.
No, Paul Taylor presented one lot of bulletins while Natassia presented the other lot.
I believe they had 2 studios.
From memory, Paul presented Cairns, Rockhampton and Sunshine Coast bulletins, while Natassia presented the remaining bulletins.
Whoops! Didn’t Paul do some of the NQ bulletins later on though?
Not that I remember.
Paul presented the NQ bulletins until 2010.
Prior to 2010, Paul and Sam presented Cairns, Townsville, Mackay, and Rockhampton from the Rockhampton studios. The other bulletins were presented from the Toowoomba studio.
In 2010, Sam Heathwood moved to Toowoomba and they shuffled the bulletins around.
Sam continued to present Townsville and Mackay, and was added to the Toowoomba bulletin. All presented from the Toowoomba studio.
Paul continued to present Cairns and Rockhampton and was added to the Sunshine Coast bulletin. All presented from the Rockhampton studio.
A few years later (I think it was 2014), they consolidated their studio facility to the Sunshine Coast. Paul moved south from Rockhampton to the Sunshine Coast and kept presenting the Cairns, Rockhampton, and Sunshine Coast bulletins. I can’t remember for sure, but I think this was the time Samantha left WIN.
Natassia took over the presenting of the Townsville, Mackay and Toowoomba bulletins.
Eventually Lincoln ended up presenting all of them, and then eventually the filming was moved to Wollongong.
This might be what I’m thinking of - a combined bulletin that was done, covering Cairns & North Queensland:
Yeah, this bulletin was just a one-off. Not a common occurance.
Wonder why? Technical issues?
I honestly don’t remember.
On a normal night, this was the presenting team in Townsville, Mackay, Toowoomba:
This was the presenting team in Cairns, Rockhampton, Sunshine Coast:
Will they retain sport and weather presenters for these bulletins?
As was mentioned, Gavin is presenting all weather forecasts (presumably all prerecorded). Nothing has been mentioned about sport yet. You would think they’ll be retained.
Given that the bulletin is made up of a couple of packaged stories from each sub region, where does a sport report fit in or come from? Unless one of those packages is about a major event or perhaps just on a Friday.
Bulletin will probably still be split into the traditional News/Sport/Weather.
Corinne May (Queensland state news director) was the interim presenter.
For the transition between the local and metro news, a direct handover without closing titles and supers from the local news would be a good idea; have the dialogue flow to directly introduce the 6pm news. This would work whether they have an in-studio handover on the metro set (Adelaide 5pm-6pm handover) or a separate set (NNN to Afternoon News handover).
And that’s the local news for tonight thanks for joining us, you can stay up-to-date at 9news.com.au. But now it’s time for Nine News at 6.
[immediately cut to start of 6pm titles]
The idea anyway is for viewers to watch the local news and stay on for the 6pm news. They’re separate productions but treat them as though they’re one big package. Ideally the local bulletin would also feature a couple of “Coming up at 6pm” crosses (could even use the ones that would normally appear in Millionaire Hot Seat).
As has already been mentioned, there won’t be a dedicated sport segment in these bulletins. Sport will only make an appearance if there is a major sporting event. Newsrooms are only filing 2 packages a day.
Personally I hope this prediction turns out to be completely wrong, but everything I’m hearing so far about these relaunched regional bulletins (largely inaccessible timeslot, largely unappealling format) really gives me the impression they’re designed to fail and eventually be cancelled, whether that be over a Summer break the bulletins won’t return from or from mid-next year when the next affiliation agreement will begin.
Can confirm at least the NSW bulletin will be done from the main studio:
That’s some good news at least. Presenting from the main studio should greatly improve the presentation of the bulletin, but outside of media spy, I doubt anyone cares.
It has probably been discussed already, but what happens between 5-5:30? Does Hot Seat get pushed back into the Afternoon News?
EDIT: Can confirm the above!
