I think @NewsWeary was referring to AFL trade news.
Do you mean TBoy?
Do you mean this? @TBoy
No, it was a new backdrop behind the reporter in a live cross for the trade period.
That actually looks quite good
Remnants of the 2010 package to the right in the weather graphics….
For reference - the 2010 full screen backgrounds
Very John Ralph cross on Fox Footy esque.
The old backdrop is back on Thursday’s afternoon news in Sydney- the live cam must be fogged up due to heavy rain
The live cam is back on now for the 6pm bulletin.
Nine’s Sydney bulletin making a point of using some extra studio wide shots tonight to feature a cruise ship setting a course for adventure and making another run. I doubt Darren McMullen and Daniel Doody are on board.
Hello everyone, I would like to share a experience of my tour to GTV back in late September.
I got to 717 Docklands at 2:50pm, as my tour started at 3. I had earlier checked into my hotel in Melbourne (I live in Bendigo and was staying the night due to going to the Royal Melbourne Show at nighttime). A few minutes after checking in, Kylie Da Fonte came and we went in the elevator to level 2.
Once on the second floor, I saw a wall with ACA/Today/Nine News/60 Minutes logo, and to my left was Sarah Abo’s 60 Minutes office, and Hitch’s crown from Moomba, as well as Clint Stanaway’s bird man costume. We then went over to the newsroom.
On the way to the newsroom, I saw a room with old GTV tapes. Some of them haven’t been digitalised, and unlike Seven who sent them all to Brisbane they remain in Melbourne’s. In the newsroom I saw many familiar faces such as:
- Reid Butler
- Clint Stanaway
- Chris Kohler
- Dougal Beatty
I had a talk with Reid Butler when Kylie went over to him. After that, we went over to the news exchange. There is many “Stop and check” signs (Normal, Pokémon style, Goku style) as well as the backdrop for 6pm. There were two people in there. After that, we walked across to the regional studio.
The Regional Studio is now used as a live cross room for Nine News Melbourne, and had a news exchange backdrop in there. Unlike what others think, that is where the live crosses are produced, not with the real news exchange. The small studio was next to the regional one, and is now used as a live cross backdrop for Today/Today Extra. So there is two studios for live crosses, unlike other states.
After, we went across to the control room. With the big one, one half is used for News and the other half for Footy Classified/Sunday Footy Show. The news side is fully automated while the FC/SFS is half automated/half manual. Next to it is the regional control room which is used for sport. After that we went downstairs.
When going downstairs there was pictures of Peter Hitchener, Brian Naylor and Sir Eric Pearce going down. After that we went into the studio. Unlike the Adelaide/Perth/Brisbane/Sydney sets, there is extra space in the studio. The extra space is used for storage of Footy Classified things they move into the Footy show set. Also as I have said, the reason the big blue thing connecting the video wall with the right side of the set is a pillar that helps the foundation of the building, so cannot be removed.
In the studio the live shot was on. I got some good photos on the set (that I haven’t shared with anyone, even members who DM’ed me). A few minutes later, the man none other than Peter Hitchener came in. Very nice man. He was in to record the 4:45, 5:20 and 5:40 updates (in case you do not know, they are prerecords as well as afternoon news ones). After that, he left as it was almost time for the afternoon news and Dougal came in.
When Dougal came in, the shot on the video wall changed to the 4pm sunny shot. I asked why they use it instead of the live shot and Kylie replied “because it looks pretty good.” A few minutes later it was time for the afternoon news, which I stayed for the first block. After that we left the set, and went to the Sunday Footy Show set. In between them is images of the old GTV presenters, cars etc. Once in there I took some photos, and after that we went through a door (that is on the bottom floor) and we went out. Kylie even suggested maybe coming back soon.
Extra: After that, I went to the Melbourne Showgrounds via train. I first looked for Livinia Nixon and found her near some rides. I was there around 10 minutes before the live cross to weather preview, and lots of people came up behind her. You were not allowed to walk up next to Livinia during the cross. I even got some photos with her (and Hitch in the studio) but didn’t stay for the 6:55pm one as it was time to go on rides at the Royal Melbourne Show (I went on Rebel Coaster, Rock Out, Spinning Coaster, Break Out and Freestyle and got showbags)
If you go up to the video I posted of the weather cross on 28.9.2022, I am the boy in the white cap/scooby doo shirt by the way. I have more photos on my phone that I could share, DM me again for them.
Thanks for posting does give a insight to how the 9 Melbourne works.
Glad you had a great time
Great to see Nine also joining Seven with local coverage.,
