Nine News Content and Appearance

Wonder why they went to dual presenters.

Not a bad move imo. Glad to see them trying dual presenters more often lately (despite the circumstances)

Have seen a couple of 4pm QLD Nine News bulletins and have noticed the 4.30pm opt out is handled a bit differently from the Sydney 4pm bulletin.

Sydney: Presenter typically says “Hot Seat is next for viewers in Southern NSW, followed by WIN Local News at 5.30 and Nine News with (insert 6pm presenter here)… For everyone else… (reads Coming Up items which still goes to all viewers)”.

Queensland: “That’s where we say goodbye to regional and Gold Coast viewers, Hot Seat is next and your next bulletin is at 5.30…. (pause)… (reads Coming Up items to all viewers)”.

I haven’t seen how Melbourne does it eg. do they acknowledge WIN or is it just a generic opt out?

Vic do it something like this:

“For regional viewers Millionaire Hot Seat is next, followed by WIN News at 5.30. For everyone else… (reads Coming Up items which still goes to all viewers)”.

This is what the Melbourne bulletin is like:

“And for regional viewers, Millionare Hot Seat is next followed by WIN News at 5:30. For everyone else,”

It shows the coming up segment then goes to a ad break with metro, but after the ad break Hot Seat starts.

Nine News on location tonight. Intense focus on live multiple sequential live reports.

Other news followed then later back to flooding

Unfortunate mic placement

This has to be a first? I don’t recall Melbournes full bulletin being presented from on location and multiple ones at that ?

First time I recall was 1983 when Brian Naylor presented from Cockatoo following the Ash Wednesday fires. Parts of the bulletin have been uploaded on YouTube by user gnadsftw

Fairly certain they did the same for Black Saturday.

Im saying all elements of a bulletin done on location but not all in the one location. News, sport , weather. In this instance they were all scattered which to me is a first

Well that could well be, I’d misunderstood your original post.

Fairly certain during Black Saturday for weeks on end there was no studio presence as TJ was with Hitch on the ground in the fire zone.

9 News Brisbane claiming their weather presenters are the only ones who “live and breathe” their weather roles. I think Tony Auden, qualified meteorologist who surfs, and Paul Burt, boating and coastal expert who is always out in location, would disagree.

Strange promo

Their promos are always a bit odd.

That reminds me, I saw a 6pm news preview at 5.45pm last night that had a super that read “10 mins to go!”…… seems like they can’t count properly either.

Good coverage again of the floods tonight in Melbourne

Think Queenslaners prefer weather presenters like Gaz and Lukey that they can relate too - not snobbish presenters like Tony Arden
